Who Will Make the World Series?

The World Series in October may still be a while off yet, however, there are enough results now to get a good idea about which teams are in with a good chance of reaching the series.

We've just had the MLB's All-Star Game, but the focus for all the leading players now will be to help their franchise win a championship. Here are three teams who look best placed to do so.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Yankees won a third straight World Series in 2000 but, since then, no team has been able to defend its crown. That's the challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers face this year.

The 2020 winners have a fantastic depth of talent on their roster which is really going to help in the closing stages of the campaign. Some pundits are arguing their squad is stronger this year than when successful last October.

The Dodgers have MLB odds on bet365 of +400. They are the favourites to lift the trophy once again in November. They have work to do to secure the top spot in the NL West, as San Francisco Giants are proving strong challengers, but they should finish the season strongly to capture the divisional title before their postseason campaign.

Houston Astros

It has been an excellent start to the season for the Houston Astros. They lead the AL West and are proving to be one of the strongest teams in the AL.

The Astros went into the postseason as the number six seeds in the AL in 2020 and they made an excellent run to the League Championship Series. Unfortunately for the team from Texas, they were beaten in a decisive seventh game of the series.

Houston have a roster that not only has a lot of experience in it, but also includes some upcoming players who are improving all the time. 24-year-old Yordan Alvarez falls into the latter category. He became the fastest player to reach 100 RBI since the expansion era began in 1961. The Cuban is going to be a key hitter for the Astros in their bid for a second World Series crown in five years.

Chicago White Sox

One of the other strong contenders for the AL Championship are the Chicago White Sox. They have a nine-game advantage in the AL Central, so are on course for their first divisional title since 2008.

In Lance Lynn and Carlos Rodon, they have two of the best performing pitchers in the MLB this season. Both players are inside the top 10 when it comes to the lowest earned run average.

The White Sox have been in rebuilding mode for the best part of the last decade. They proved last year when they reached the playoffs that they now have a roster that is capable of going all the way.

It is going to be an exciting finish to the 2021 season and one in which all three of the above teams will be hoping it is their name that is engraved on the Commissioner's Trophy.
