Can Clemson Hold On to the Top Spot?

By Joe Messineo

The stage is set. The committee has spoken, and now the world is ready to see the College Football Playoffs unfold this season to see who the next national champion will be. The obvious choice, the Clemson Tigers, are the No. 1 seed in this year's playoff bracket and are the only undefeated team in the College Football Playoffs.

But the Tigers won't have an easy task winning it all, as there are three other talented teams in the College Football Playoff bracket. The Alabama Crimson Tide, the Michigan State Spartans, and the Oklahoma Sooners will all be gunning for the National Championship and trying give Clemson their first loss of the season. What could be a better way to give someone their first loss than in the playoffs? College football fans. The payoffs are set.

The Clemson Tigers are hungry to finish off their season with an unblemished record. Head coach Dabo Swinney has directed the team and has received outstanding play from QB DeShaun Watson, who was a Heisman candidate this season due to his exceptional play. Watson was named an All-American this season and also received impressive honors such as winning the Davey O'Brien Award and being named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year. The high-tempo offense is one that can strike any time which makes them a threat any time they're on the field.

Clemson will take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the College Football Playoffs in the Orange Bowl. Will the Sooners have the ability to show that they are truly back on the map? The Sooners have had mediocre seasons over the a past few years, but under the direction of head coach Bob Stoops and led by scrappy QB Baker Mayfield, the Sooners look like teams of the past who dominated the Big 12 and college football as a whole. It's going down in the Orange Bowl. Don't miss it.

Meanwhile, the Alabama Crimson Tide are once again in the College Football Playoffs this season. This college football powerhouse has developed a tradition of winning consistently under the direction of head coach Nick Saban. Saban has been with the University of Alabama since 2007 and has a 98-18 record. Saban has also won three national championships and four SEC championships. The tradition of winning at Alabama is incomparable to any other program in college football because of the consistency that the program keeps.

Last season, Alabama lost the the eventual national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the first round of the playoffs. The University of Alabama will look to show that they're better than ever by dominating in the College Football Playoffs. The University of Alabama will be taking on the Michigan State Spartans in the Cotton Bowl. Michigan State has had some success this season and has had two thrilling wins over Ohio State and Michigan, which helped propel them to the Big 10 Championship, where they defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes. Under the direction of Mark Dantonio, the Spartans are confident that they can compete with anyone in the country and win it all.

Will Alabama get taken down by another Big 10 team in the first round of the playoffs again this season? Is Michigan State up to the challenge of taking out a powerhouse in the University of Alabama? Only time will tell, don't miss out, it's playoff time.

With all eyes on winning the national championship, these four teams will bring their best in order to prove that they're the best team in the country. A win means a straight path to Glendale, Arizona where the national championship will be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
