Thanks for the link Catman. I'm glad Mark Teixiera won a Gold glove. He's an awesome hitter too.

Glad to see my man Jeter with the Gold Glove at SS. Congrats to Kenny Rogers also, he had a great season and is pretty old by now.

anyone think they should have a gold glove award for LF, RF, and CF? it would spark a nice Jim Edmonds vs Andruw Jones depends for the NL CF Gold Glove.

Meh, I don't know I think the main reason they just take 3 OFers without regards as to if they play center, left, or right is due to the fact that your top notch defensive outfielders play center and there is a real lack of elite defensive corner outfielders.

By the way the NL's selections are out and as usual they went status quo with only Mike Lowell and Abreu winning their first:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2211848

For the life of me I can't figure out how Luis Castillo wins out over Grudzielanek other than the propensity to pick the same guys every year.

I'm also surprised by Castillo over Grudzilanek, Kent, etc. Seems like it's based more on previous seasons, huh.

The other big surprise for me is Jeter. I guess he benefitted from injuries and lack of star power at his position in the AL, outside of Tejada, who's known for offense. Michael Young and Cabrera come to mind as other options, but SOMEBODY had to be better than Jeter.

(The real reason i'm posting this is cuz i was on a particularly satanic number of posts and couldn't go to sleep til i fixed that issue-- not that i don't stand firmly behind my off-the-cuff comments posted here)

That's what I was thinking. Jeter is a great shortstop, but I would think Cabrera would of got it.... he's just nasty at SS.

Why did somebody have to be better than Jeter? He's an excellent SS.

NYJay... how many errors did Jeter finish the season with? I'll do some h-dub myself and get some ##'s... You're right though - Jeter is a great SS (absolutely no question 1 of the best). I thought maybe Cabrera could of got it.

Jeter had about 8 more errors than Cabrera, but he also had almost 20 more double plays than Orlando.

Cabrera was hands-down the best defensive SS in the league this past year. Jeter finished with 15 errors and Cabrera had only 7. Single digits in errors for a SS is phenomenal. Jeter is a good SS but I have never thought he was elite defensive SS.

20 more dbl plays shouldn't matter that much. You could argue that Angels didn't have that many dbl play opportunities w/ their pitching staff. I wasn't aware Cabrera only had 7... that is amazing. Forget my Renteria joke... Cabrera really was robbed.

Here is ESPN's fielding page:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding?groupId=7
I can see why Jeter won the Gold Glove using just the stats here.
I would, however, not disagree that Cabrera may have deserved the award. Jeter played more games, had more total chances, assists, put-outs, and errors, but put up solid numbers. Had someone else won the award, I would have had a problem with it.
