Post Clarett's NFL Debut Will Have To Wait

After waiting two and a half years for a chance to finally play in another football game, Broncos RB Maurice Clarett will have to wait at least one more week due to a groin injury.

Somewhere Andy Geiger is having a good laugh.

Why do I get the feeling this may end up being the case more often than not?

It looks like to me that groin injuries are the choice of players who may be just trying to get out of preseason and workouts.

He couldn't make it through college healthy, so what makes anyone think he will in the NFL? I don't expect much from Clarett.

Ah, but remember who drafted him - Mike Shanahan!

Which means if he ever plays a full season he will run for at least 12 hundred yards. It is amazing how Mike churns out running backs.

I am not quite sure what Anthony means by that statement as Shanahan's backs also seem to have a trouble staying healthy at times: Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary, Quentin Griffin, and Mike Anderson have all struggled to stay healthy playing for Shanahan in recent years. It could just be co-incidence though.

It now looks like it may have to wait even longer. It is being said that the Broncos are set to relase him. This is a surprise to me considering the deal he signed.

I have to wonder why they ever drafted Clarett with Anderson, Griffin, and Bell in place. Dayne has played well too. Shanahan must've gotten his NFL team mixed up with his fantasy team, judging by all that RB stockpiling

I find it somewhat comical the only player Denver drafted this season who was NOT a cornerback is the one cut.

When was the last time a third rounder did not make it out of camp? I remember everyone called Shanahan nuts for taking Clarette so high.

What was Clarett's time for the 40? 4.9? Why anyone thought he would have an impact or Denver - or for those real fringe nutters, thought he might start - is beyond me.

Interestingly enough, Walter Reyes (Clarett's cousin) was cut earlier this week by the Titans. Injuries seem to have doomed both careers. Reyes does have a workout planned with Mora and the Falcons though.

2004. BJ Sander of the GB Packers, and he'll probably be put on the practice squad again this season. Gee, between Sander and 2004 1st round flop Ahmad Carroll, i can't imagine why Sherman lost his GM job...

i wouldnt write Clarett off just yet. someone might be willing to gamble on him once he is healthy. i just dont think the guy is going to quit on football. if not the nfl he could always go to the arena leagues and try to mount a come back there. a guy's time running the 40 isnt the end all-be all of his career.
