Default Baseball HoF Veterans Committee nominees

Didn't see a thread on this, so thought I'd post. The Veterans Committee nominees were announced not long ago for the HoF.

Post 1943 careers:

Dick Allen
Gil Hodges
Jim Kaat
Tony Oliva
Al Oliver
Vada Pinson
Ron Santo
Luis Tiant
Joe Torre
Maury Wills

Pre 1943 careers:

Bill Dahlen
Wes Ferrell
Joe Gordon
Sherry Magee
Carl Mays
Allie Reynolds
Vern Stephens
Mickey Vernon
Bucky Walters
Deacon White

Voting results will be announced in December.

My reaction: looking at similarity scores (HoF-ers in parentheses), the best arguments would seem to be for:

Jim Kaat (Robin Roberts, Ferguson Jenkins, Eppa Rixey, Early Wynn, Burleigh Grimes, Red Ruffing, Ted Lyons)

Bill Dahlen (George Davis, Bid McPhee, Frankie Frisch, Bobby Wallace, Harry Hooper, Max Carey, Luke Appling)

Ron Santo (Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Gary Carter, Carlton Fisk)

Vern Stephens (Gabby Hartnett, Bill Dickey, Bobby Doerr, Tony Lazzeri)

Joe Torre (Bobby Doerr, Ryne Sandberg, Gabby Hartnett, Bill Dickey, Gary Carter)

Al Oliver (Zack Wheat, Roberto Clemente, Joe Medwick, Enos Slaughter)

Deacon White (Joe Sewell, Hughie Jennings, Jimmy Collins, Arky Vaughan).

HoF similars for the rest, which seem a cut below these: Dick Allen (none), Gil Hodges (none), Tony Oliva (none), Vada Pinson (Roberto Clemente, Zack Wheat), Luis Tiant (Catfish Hunter, Jim Bunning, Don Drysdale), Maury Wills (Dave Bancroft, John Ward, Johnny Evers), Wes Ferrell (none), Joe Gordon (none), Sherry Magee (Edd Roush, Joe Kelley), Carl Mays (Stan Coveleski, Jack Chesbro, Chief Bender), Allie Reynolds (Lefty Gomez, Bob Lemon), Mickey Vernon (Enos Slaughter), Bucky Walters (none).

Kaat, Dahlen, Santo, Stevens, and Torre would get my vote. Of course, there have been no players voted in since the new format was set up. Maybe things will be different this time.

catman will become famous soon enough

Good analysis. Lets see which, if any, of these guys actually make it to Cooperstown.
Torre will be enshrined more for his manager stats.

Joe Torre deserves it as a manager for sure.
