Default Should Giants Call Up The Farmhands?

I couldn't believe what I read in Tuesday's San Francisco Chronicle (no wonder it's free). No, I'm not talking about their wacky, far-right editorial or op-ed articles - but rather a piece calling for the Giants to simply give up on the 2011 season and start calling up minor-league prospects en masse.

To me, this is, to put it politely, unethical: Even if you're out of the race for first place, you still owe it to your fan base, and to the integrity of the game, to try and finish second. Anything else and you're a quitter, a wuss, a coward.

That may sound "corny" and "old-fashioned" - but hey, whatever.
