Default Eagles Cut Simon Loose

Well, not a total shock but the Eagles removed the Franchise tag from Corey Simon making him an unrestricted free agent. I am not overly surprised by this as they did this to Trotter a few years ago and from what I have read Mike Patterson has played really well in camp thus far and it sounds as though he may be the real deal for the Eagles. They can still re-sign Simon if they wish but it seems unlikely. Given the deph the Eagles now possess with four quality veterans in Darwin Walker, Hollis Thomas, Sam Rayburn, and Paul Grasmanis and Patterson they do not have a pressing need for Simon's services.

I must apologize to Corey. Little did I realize when i released him from my fantasy team yesterday morning, that that decision would be so influential in the Eagles choice to release him.

He's a good player, but as doublee mentions, Philly will manage without him. Really, the only thing this club needs to be concerned with is the on-field relationship between Donovan and T.O. If the Eagles don't get off to a flying start (they should, but you never know) then watch out for some meltdowns and fireworks on the sidelines. Also, depth at running back is an issue.

simon can't deal w/ the eagles or any team they are try to trade him too. clearly he wants more money. the eagles frankly don't need him. they have had the best overall defense for the past five years and will easily move on. they were great after when they let trotter go. they'll be fine without simon. the system is far more important then the player.

A trade is no longer an option as Simon is now an unrestricted free agent - meaning that the Eagles will get no return at all on their investment, which in this case was the sixth overall pick in the 2000 draft.

right, but i was talking about when they were trying to deal him to the ravens and other intrested teams before the eagles gave up. he was unable to work out a contract with them too. on the surface it appears that his demands are too high and it's not an issue of the eagles being the bully.

the eagles arent left out in the cold. they did get 5 solid seasons from simon and have $5 million to play with to resign some people. a new deal for westbrook would be a great start.

Rumor is the Eagles are all set to offer Westbrook a new deal along the lines of what Domanick Davis got from the Texans a couple of months ago. But, due to his holdout they are holding off so as not to appear as though Westbrook got the upperhand by holding out.

As for Simon my guess is it mostly has to do with Reid feeling as though Simon does not dedicate himself to the game the way he should and did not want to give him a long term deal given his penchant for showing up in camp overweight and not getting into game shape until halfway through the season.

Props to the Colts for signing Simon to a five-year deal: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...C-DT9705204233

Seriously, the one knock on them is their defense, and this has to be an upgrade.

This may give them a legitimate shot at the Pats that front four with Simon and Freeny is very scary if they get them indoors.

Holy Crap!! After watching last night's game I think I can see why the Eagles cut Simon loose. My God, when we waddled out onto the field I thought the Colts had signed the Michelin Man. Simon's usual playing weight is right around 300 and he looked as though he was easily pushing 330 last night.

i thought he looked like the stay puft marshmallow man myself, but yeah the guy is looks like a fat slob. no reason to for the eagles to cave in and give him all the money he demaned meanwhile he is in no physical shape to play.
