Default Bill Parcells Retires

Parcells retires from coaching, leaves Cowboys after 4 seasons

Quote:
"I am retiring from coaching football...I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years...Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here...I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time...I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."

I am already hearing rumors of Bob Stoops being considered for the job, and would welcome him leaving the Big XII, but I don't see how anyone could argue he would be a good fit for Jerry Jones' organization.

Hopefully this will allow him the time to put out that excercise video the public has been clamoring for.

Pretty surprising. I wonder if he'll return to TV? I don't think Dallas was honestly expecting this.

I hope Jones knows what hes doing, and gets somebody who wont run the franchise into the ground like his last several hires. At least Parcells built this team up with the draft, and has a good young core to build around on defense.

I'm glad he retired. He is a boring coach and an a-hole.

I don't know about boring...next to Bobby Knight, his press conferences are the best.

Why would he leave Chicago? Does he have ties to Dallas?

Well, first and foremost, he grew up in Texas and was supposedly a huge Cowboys fan as a kid. Secondly, he is one of the lowest paid coaches in the league and the Bears have yet to pony up a long term extension for him, which has been a bit of a sore subject for him of late. I think he has one year left on his contract, but that could probably be bought out or some sort of compensation could be arranged.

I'm sure the Bears are going to throw a bunch of money at him this offseason.

They should have done it last year after he won Coach of the Year. That is where he is feeling disrespected by the organization. But, given that Petrino just got $4.5 mil from the Falcons Smith is about to get paid big time.
