People counted them out at the begining of the year too as I recall. With an entire team on the disabled list they made a run near the break, now they've fallen off a little bit, but they have an entire team on the DL practically it seems. They are only 7 games back and they have the talent and the desire to win 100 games this year. How will hell have frozen over? They have one of the best pitching staffs (when healthy) in all of baseball.

Because for the Sox to win the division the Yankees would have to completely go in the tank. The Yankees are on pace to win 104 games so even if the Sox get their crap together and manage to win 100 games which would be pretty impressive considering they will have to go 42-18 to close the season which is .700 ball.

Even if the Yankees play just .500 ball the rest of the way they will win 95 games.

The only chance the Sox really stand is if they take at least 8 of their 10 reamaining games left with the Yankees.

Now I'm not saying they are going to do it, a more reasonable number would be 85 to 90 wins, but the Red Sox have gone on long winning streaks this season. They have pulled back from multiple games out in the East to bring themselves back into contention. I would be the first to admit the Sox chances of making the playoffs are hard, but its not HELL FROZE OVER hard, the team needs to get healthy and they could go out and win 42 of their next 60 the Red Sox are one of the top five teams in baseball easily.

Joey Votto is the easy choice for MVP in my opinion, but hes not going to win it because baseball voters are plain stupid, he almost didn't even make the all start game...

Aside from campaigning for certain players, the baseball writers, who vote for the MVP, have nothing to do with who gets into the All Star Game. That is all left to fans, managers, and players.

I don't know that Votto is the easy choice. He is definitely in the mix but his numbers are not head-and-shoulders above the rest of the league and I would not count out some pitchers being in the mix with this being such a down year at the plate in the N. L.

The MVP could very well come down to Votto and Pujols with the winner being the guys team who wins the division.

Right now, Votto is having a significantly better year than Pujols.

I agree with you, Fresh. Votto is definitely in the running for the NL MVP. If the Reds win the division, he wins.

Hellickson has electric stuff. It should be fun to watch tonight. The Twins are the hottest team in the bigs right now.

The Reds get swept by the Cards on August 12th. On August 15th the Reds are in first place by a game.

If you had told me that at the beginning of the season I would've laughed at you.

GO REDS!!!
