Smile Pyro's Introduction

I was searching through Google with the keywords "sports discussion forum" and saw SC listed twice in the first twenty pages. I then searched "sports message board" and this was the first site that came up (other than MSN, Yahoo, ESPN, etc.). I figured it must be fate, so I decided to register.

The thing that's impressed me the most thus far is how well Marc and the staff run this site. How you guys have managed to get yourself up there with the sites I mentioned above beats me, you must do a terrific job with SEO. I think you've got a well-thought-out list of rules, and this seems like a welcoming place to post.

A few things about myself: My favorite teams are the Spurs, Chiefs, and Nationals. Basketball's my favorite sport, and I played Junior Varsity for my high school team as a sophomore this season. I've been addicted to Internet forums for the past few years, and they've helped me mature as a person and a thinker a lot. I'm not the most knowledgeable member around, so I try and ask questions to get better and only post what I know.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in this thread or via PM.

Welcome, Pyro!!! :wavey:

I replied to your PM and thrilled to have you here. That's right, we are No. 5 on the Internet for "sports message boards," ahead of MSNBC, FOX, and others. No secrets, just hard work for many years.

How did you end up being fans of those teams? Like me (Packers, Kentucky Wildcats, Pistons), it covers many geographical areas.

Living in Iowa, I don't have any local choices. Minnesota, Chicago, and Milwaukee are somewhat close, but none of their franchises really interest me for NBA. For football, the Chief's are always on cable, so I can watch them frequently. I just became a fan of them this season, so I have a lot of learning to do. I also like how they've been rebuilding for the past couple of years, it gives me a young team to follow. I barely watch baseball, it was Opening Day last year and I watched a few innings of their game (against the Braves, I think), and I decided whoever won would be my favorite team. Ryan Zimmerman hit a walkoff home run for the Nats, so that's how I started supporting them. I don't watch much baseball, so they're not near-and-dear to my heart yet.

Sidenote:

Even though this joint came up #5 on your search I have to admit we've been using 'roids for years. A-Rod hooked us up.

Probably best to put an * by that one.

See ya in the funny papers...

Just curious, Pyro: Do you derive your user name from the horse who has earned just under $1.5 million in his career and at one point was briefly considered the favorite to win last year's Kentucky Derby?

Whether that is the origin of your handle or not, the "horsepower" you bring to this community is most welcomed, and heartily appreciated.

I am willing to bet that Kansas City lost more fans than they gained this past season.

Nah, it's basketball-related. It has to do with torching nets with my insane 3-ball.

Thanks to everyone who's welcomed me so far.

Such a promising start, Pyro, but you've gone MIA. How much will it cost me for you stay around? Everyone's gotta a price.
