Default Who are the top players avaliable at the deadline?

Well, I continue to talk about it, but I just can't get over it, the trade deadline is a big thing for baseball nowadays, and so far we've heard, there haven't been that many big-time players on the market, lets take a look at some of the top players avaliable:

Jason Giambi: .322, 19 HR, 60 RBI. Giambi is obviously one of the games top hitters, and has had more and more talk about being traded, and less and less about wearing pinstripes. he is a consistany hitter with great power, last years MVP. Trade Value: A

Phil Nevin: .310, 21 HR, 72 RBI, Nevin is really having a monster season, he has shown much more power this season, and has a lot of teams asking, should we go after him? If it doesn't ahppen now, it will happen later, the Pads won't be able to pay his salary, safe trade here. Grade: A

Chuck Knoblauch: .251, 84 hits, 29 RBI, .677 OPS, Knoblauch is really nearing the end, his average is way down, he has only 84 hits, and really, if he gets picked up, most likey will end up as a 7th spot hitter. He can give you hits, but not consistantly, if a team needs a pickup , and doesn't wanna give up a lot, Knoblauch would be an ok pick, in my opinion he's done. Grade: C-

Pedro Astacio: 6-9, 5.18 ERA, 107 SO, 16 HR ( given up) , 3 CG, SHO. Pedro started out great, and then flopped, I went to teh Pads game during his last start and he really hurled a beauty, a 4-hit shutout, he struck out seven and really increased his stock , he is a good pitcher who just needs a change of scenery( however you spell it) to start over. Grade: B

David Wells: 5-7, 4.47 ERA, 59 SO, CG, 12 HR. A lot of people don't consider him premir pitcher anymore, he has always spoke his mind, and that hasn't always been popular with the media or his teammates. He doesn't have much left, but he can help some team in the playoffs as a fourth or fifth starter. Grade: B-

Tony Clark: .305 , 13 HR, 51 RBI, .916 OPS. When I saw his name on the All-Star roster, I said, " Whaaaaa?" Then I took a look at his stats, and he has been one of the best kept secrets in baseball, his numbers don't show too much power, but show consistancy, a .916 OPS has really got scouts watching. He can be a good 2nd, 3rd, or 5th hitter and, like Wells, can help some team into the postseason. Grade: B

Chuck Finley: 4-4, 6.45 ERA, 63 SO, 12 HR: Not much here for old Chuck, he is basicaly at the end of his career and is spending most of his season on the DL, the only way Clevland can get someone good for him is if they throw in cash, or soemone from the farm. he has no more starting talent, so he could be middle reliever. Grade: D

Dimirti Young: .328, 8 HR, 32 RBI, .847 OPS. Dimirti ball-hitter has been getting hits, and driving in a share of runs , he ahs a good average and is another safe pick, 5th-8th hitter, possibly 3rd. Grade: B

I voted for Pedro Astacio, because in my opinion, he's the pitcher that can help the most, and Giambi and Nevin probably won't be dealt. I've heard Young and Knoblauch to the Braves rumors, and frankly, I hope they're not true.

I voted for David Wells.... the question asks, "Who is the best player up for trade?" and he's very good, if you want to put up with his off-field trash.

I voted for Giambi b/c he is the only one of the people you have included that has won a very significant award, the AL MVP last year, and that he is basically that same player.

Great job of analyzing the players, J.
I voted for Dimitri Young because I can't really see the other hitters going anywhere. I don't see the A's letting Giambi get away because they really don't have any alternatives at 1B right now.
Astacio would be a good pick up for a team like the Indians who need starters.
David Wells isn't a legitimate "rent-an-arm" because of his clubhouse presence.
Knoblauch is the reason that the Twins are where they are now. 2 All-stars for him and 2 more guys that are "roll-players".
Tony Clarke is having a good season, but his health issues would be a concern to me. I don't know how he would hold up.

Moises Alou (rumored to be on the block in the last yr of his contract) would be a better addition than any of those.

I'd like to see Phil Nevin go to the Boston Red Sox and Jason Giambi go to the Braves and Knoblauch go to Seattle and see Chuck Finley go sit down somewhere.
