They haven't played this bad in a couple of years.

All I can say is the same I say about my Yankees. Its still early. Good teams play well when it counts. The true test for the Braves and Yankees will come as time goes by to see if they have what it takes to come from behind and I think, at least, my Yankees too and probably the Braves do too.

I know that one of the problems is that their pitching is not what it used to be. Especially with Smoltz gone, it hurts them even more.

In my humble opinion, the Braves are showing that their age is catching up to them and the lack of the Big Cat in the middle of their lineup. The pitchers are getting old, but are still very productive, and they lack depth there.
Their defense isn't as good as it once was and they haven't started to hit well yet. I wouldn't count them out just yet. I expect them to have quite a bit to say about who goes to the WS from the National League.

The Braves are doing lousy, and I couldn't be happier. Atlanta has to be my least favorite team in MLB.

I agree too. I might dislike the Braves even more than the Yankees. Too bad this year my Mets aren't doing so well either. I feel their problem is a lack of depth in the bullpen and low production by their hitters. Why was Chipper doing so bad early on?

Nothing seriously wrong with the Braves. Yeah, they might be getting older, but that isn't it. It's what you call a serious, collective offensive slump, one that looks to be cured by visit to Enron. They've finally scored some runs.
There's nothing wrong with the starters, they're doing just as good as last year, without John Smoltz. Once they get Smoltz back they'll be better. The one thing I worry about is the bullpen, it needs to be consistent. Though I do like the addition of Jose Cabrera. Chipper and Andruw have finally gotten on track, and the offense is finally clicking. The problem with Chipper was some nagging injuries, first with the thumb, then he hurt his big toe sliding not too long ago in Philly. You know what's ironic? The fact that the Mets are having very similar problems with their offense at the same time. |

I still think that the "problem" that the Braves have is that they are getting old and the rest of the league is getting better. It's too early to write anyone off or call anyone a sure thing. Lets see what the rest of the season brings.

Yes, it is funny how this year the Braves got off to a slow start and the Met's did even worse. Agbayani and Perez got injured early on and we had to play people like Joe McEwing in the outfield. Also, Alfonzo has been struggling and we had this idea of replacing Bobby Jones and Mike Hampton with Kevin Appier and Steve Traschel. You like Traschel's 10.42 ERA...
