Exclamation Chiefs TE Gonzalez shooting for NBA!

Complete Story
Quote:
Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez, a free agent following the season, is hoping he can play in New York or Miami next year.

Not with the Giants, Jets or Dolphins, but rather with the Knicks or the Heat of the NBA.

In an interview with SportsLine.com late Saturday evening, the NFL's best tight end revealed he intends to soon become another member of the elite two-sport group.
Whoa, kind of came out of nowhere, huh? I think he should do what he wants to do, but being the best tight end in football, I think he ought to stick to just that and resigning with the Chiefs are possibly a new team. Playing two sports is not easy, look how it often interfered with Deion Sanders.

That certainly is interesting. Two-sport athletes have always seemed to grab my attention. They are mostly Football-Baseball though. I don't think I have ever seen a Football-Basketball two-sport athlete. It will be interesting to see if he gets what he wants.

Yeah, but it puzzles me why a guy who is the best at what he does would try to do something where he certainly wouldn't be the best. Hmm. :uhoh:

He was a pretty good high school and college player, so I've heard.

It would be pretty interesting if he did go ahead with it, seeing as how the football and basketball seasons are played at the same time for a few months. That could get pretty hectic.

It would suck if he hurt his football career by making a basketball comeback.

I remember Gonzalez as a good player at Cal. Basketball-Football isn't totally unheard of, Donovan McNabb did it for my Orangemen and Julius Peppers and Ronald Curry did it for the Tar Heels.

Yeah, but he'd miss the first three and a half months of the basketball season while he plays football. It wouldn't make sense, scheduling wise.

Moss will want to do it next, he already went semi-pro. But anyway, I think it is a bad move. Two-Sport stars are amazing athletes but I'm hoping it doesnt ruin his great football career.

Would he refuse to play in the NBA as well?

Haha - Bills WR Eric Moulds is considering the NBA. What is it with all this all of the sudden? It says he was recruited by Kentucky, which is an interesting tidbit. I don't know if it's frustration in this losing season for the Bills, or what, but if I were him, I'd stay put and keep that $40 million contract!

Personally, I think the entire sports world should get together and make some kind of rule prohibiting a player from one sport playing another sport if it interferes with the schedules majorly. Missing training camp of a sport is one thing, but when you're missing half of the season playing another sport, it isn't fair to the players on the team.

I don't know where that came from...
