Default Why are there so many fights in hockey?

I'm curious at to what the explanation is...

How come fights in hockey games are so common
(almost part of the game)...

But, in other sports (baseball, football, basketball,
horse racing, etc.) they are relatively rare...

???

I'd say cuz it's the most violent sport on the planet. The collisions alone are brutal & the ones that usually get the gloves dropped are the real bad intent ones that no one sees coming. Tempers just flare out of reflex.

Add in the enforcers teams employ to take teams out of their game & it's a guaranty you'll see something here & there. I actually miss the fighting since it's reduction thru the years. It was just a part of the game & like seeing 2 sports for the price of 1...hockey & boxing.

Baseball only has a couple times of true interaction which are getting hit by a pitch or a play at a base. Other than that, there's not much to incite the players who as a rule anyway, stand around at there position waiting for a ball to come their way. Pretty low key...

Football usually gets paid back on subsequent plays if someone's pissed & a lot of times with the help of teammates. That & the fact that if you fight, you're gone. The chance to vent happens every play so it seems to keep things from brewing unless players are cheap shotting each other.

Basketball is too finesse & more woofin' than fighting anyway. Plus you get thrown out & suspended which is just giving money away.

In horse racing, the jockeys all fairly are evenly matched but by the time they climb down from the horse when they're pissed, they usually have calmed down from the long trip...

It's the culture of the sport. Way different than basketball, etc. It's succinct, but I believe that's the truth. The blade to the throat is one of the more painful, cringe-worthy things I can think of it, I'm surprised more injuries don't happen.
