Default Cowher will coach again, the question is where

Quote:
Source: Cowher, Jets still to talk

ESPN.com news services

The door to the New York Jets' opening might not be closed for Bill Cowher just yet after all.

A high-ranking Jets official told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the team is still planning to speak to Cowher about its vacant head coaching job. No time or place for the interview has been set, but the official says the Jets would be willing to do "whatever is necessary" to land Cowher if he is truly interested in taking the job.

Cowher plans to speak publicly for the first time about the Jets' opening and other coaching opportunities during CBS' wild-card pregame show on Sunday, a source told 1050 ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand.

Jets, Redskins, Browns are some of the teams I hear mentioned. Of them, I think the Jets' situation is the best. So where does he end up, folks?

He has already turned down the Browns and I don't think Zorn is getting canned just yet. I am not sure there is a job out there that is terribly intriguing to him just yet.

He might be interested in the Jets job but I cannot help but wonder if his insistence on his own personnel guy means he has no interest in the job if Favre is going to be around next year.

The current rumblings are that it is probably going to take an offer he cannot refuse for him to come back next year he is telling everyone he is happy staying with CBS for the time being.

Wouldn't it be something if Cowher took the Detroit job?

That will never happen unless Detroit offers him something like $10 mil a year. I think Cowher is holding out for a job to come open a bit closer to home or one that pays him an ungodly amount of money.

There is a decent chance that Jacksonville, Tampa, or Washington could be available this time next year if their fortunes do not turn around next season.

Mike thinks you guys are dumb for believing he will coach any where this season. Mike read Cowher stated he wouldn't coach this year. Mike knows Cowher wants to be a CBS analyst

And you can add Carolina to that list.

You heard it here first: The NFC South is going to do much, much worse as a whole in 2009 than it did in 2008.

If the lunatic fringe had their way in Charlotte Fox would be out and Cowher would be by the end of this week after that embarrassment against Arizona.

Depending on what they do the Panthers could take a step back next year. Peppers is a free agent and there is some speculation that he is looking to get out and wants to get paid and Jordan Gross is a free agent as well and is going to demand a big contract coming off of his first All Pro season.

Neither the Panthers nor the Falcons have ever had back-to-back winning seasons, and with the Buccaneers likely losing their starting quarterback, and with the huge jump in strength of schedule these teams are taking?

It is only a marginal exaggeration to suggest that if the Saints can match their 8-8 record of 2008, they will win the division in 2009.

Cowher is really holding out for what he wants. There were many openings this season. Do you guy get the feeling he just doesn't want to coach? Maybe he is happy with his studio job?

Do you think he would have taken the Colts job if it was avail?

All that head coaching talent on the tree, just waiting to be plucked in the winter/spring of 2010.

It's so tempting for me to hope that the Eagles finish 5-11 or so in 2009 - and maybe Cowher, Shanahan etc. would usher in a change at quarterback as well.

Quarterback is not the issue. If not for McNabb's play in the second half the Eagles would not have been in a place to potentially win the game. They need another back to compliment Westbrook so the entire offense does not rest on McNabb having to carry the team when Westbrook is hurt.

McNabb's first three second-half drives = three touchdowns.

But on the fourth, with the game on the line?

Choke, choke, choke.

Dude.... they were down in a HUGE hole and he has 3 TD drives on his first three!!

Yeah, 4 would be great but come on... defense had to step up too...

But didn't the Cardinals gain like 50 yards less than their (regular) season average?
