Vazquez got torched when he was with the Yankees. It was absolutely frustrating how many homers he gave up. He didn't do much better in Arizona in the NL last season. I can't imagine that he'll do much better in Chicago.

I think the White Sox gave up way too much to pick him up. Even if he comes back a bit. Chris Young is going to be a very, very good player and El Duque is still a decent pitcher.
And, yes it was a typo. El Duque and Chris Young, along with the relief pitcher, go to the D'Backs for Vazquez. A very high price to pay for him.

I was wondering how this move helps him get "closer to his home" in Puerto Rico? Surely there isn't much in it as far as flight times.

Contreras was no gem when he came to the White Sox. i'm sure they can turn around Vazquez.

I think it was the high expectation to perform that created the problems for Contreras in NY.

Sounds like Garland could be the odd one out in Chicago now, as they will probably have to pay him 10 million plus when it comes around to a new deal next year.

which is why I think Vazquez will fit in Chicago. he'll be at the back of the rotation without big expectations. in Arizona he was their ace and he simply can't fit into that role.

Giving up a #4 starter, a reliever and a potential star for a #3 starter doesn't sound like a good trade to me. The White Sox have a tendency to overpay for talent and they have regretted decisions in the past. This may be another regrettable trade.
The Dodgers signing Mueller was a good move. The Mariners signed Carl Everett to a 2-year deal with a club option for a 3rd year. I wonder who the White Sox will trade to them to get him back?

they don't have a spot to put Carl. World Series MVP Jermaine Dye will be the everyday RF and Jim Thome will DH.

They have traded a lot of prospects for him over the past 5 seasons -- he's left and returned 3 times, I believe. By the way, I'm joking about him going back to the Sox. I doubt if he's interested.
The Twins signed Tony Batista to play 3B next season. I like this move. It's a low-risk, high-reward sort of move.

el duque was not a #4 starter. yes he was clutch in the postseason, but he was injury prone. vazquez has averaged 210+ innings and 14 wins over the 6 years. he is a #3 starter. the prospect they gave up was just that, a prospect, and they had another "prospect" ahead of him and AAA with better numbers, so it didnt hurt them at all. vizcaino is a solid reliever, but with jenks here the whole year, he too was expendable.

all this and i am not even a sox fan but an a's fan. but i can sure as heck appreciate what williams has done to improve the team for a repeat run. thome, vazquez, mackowiak, resign konerko, they will be hard to beat. they have the best starting rotation with garland, garcia, contreras, vazquez and buerhle with the a's a close second.

Rumor has it that the Sox and Rangers are working on a deal that centers around Garland going to Texas and Blalock coming to Chicago. If that comes to fruition I wonder what that means for Joe Crede who had some pretty big plays for them in the postseason and is a good glove at third.

Nomah in LA. Now the Dodgers have ex-Sox Grady Little, D-low, Mueller, and Nomar. I guess I know who my NL team is now. Looks like Nomar will be playing 1B.... that should be interesting.

Should be interesting to say the least. Nomar is a bit on the small side to play first base to begin with. Not to mention all of the leg/groin/hammy injuries he has suffered the past couple of years have likely sapped him of a lot of flexibility in his lower body.

Normar is going to hurt himself running around bases or getting out of the batter's box. it doesn't where they put him on the field. he's broken down and he'll be hurt half the season regardless.
