Default NBA hoping to avoid lockout

Quote:
DENVER -- Leaders from the NBA and players' association met Friday in their latest attempt to avert a lockout this summer.

Players' association president Michael Curry sounded convinced after the meeting that the two sides would reach a deal before the season ends.

"I'm very optimistic that we'll get a deal done before the end of the regular season," Curry said. "It's almost impossible to get one done in the playoffs."

"We just know the logistics. Once the playoffs start, it becomes difficult to get a deal. Better now than later."

If anything, the NHL lockout has to remind these guys how bad it is. But can you imagine if both the NBA and NHL are locked out? Lightning in a bottle, I know, but stranger things have happened. :uhoh:

I don't think the NBA will get deadlocked... like both sides said:
it's doing so well right now it would be an utter shame.

The NBA has to avoid a work stoppage at all costs. They will look at the NHL lockout and realise that they cannot afford to go that route

From what I've been hearing, it seems like the only thing that is keeping a deal from being reached is the age limit that the league wants to establish. And I am totally confident that they can work that out and avoid a work stoppage like in 98-99.

Yeah, I doubt the players will allow a work stoppage either. After all how are guys like Latrell Sprewell going to feed their families after all 14 million dollars just does not go as far as it used to and Sprewell can only afford to be out of work for a month or two before he has to file for bankruptcy.

There is no way that this one sticking point will make them lockout they will make concessions to make sure the season starts on schedule.

 anyone remember when Latrell said that? my respect for Sprewell took a hard nosedive after he complained about being able to feed his family on a 'measly' 14 million salary.

Actually the league age requirement is down the list of importance when considering other things also being disputed.

The League wanting to shorten guaranteed contracts by two years and the reduction of players salaries is of a bigger focus for the league right now and the players care more about seeing an end to the luxury taxes imposed on teams and escrow taxes the players face.

Those things are of a bigger concern to both parties then the age limit.

And Shawndo...........you actually HAD respect for Spreewell before this??????

Fight On!
