Default Heisman finalists announced...

Troy Smith - Ohio State
Brady Quinn - Notre Dame
Darren McFadden - Arkansas

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

Only one player has ever won the award without playing in a BCS game since the inception of that system (Ricky Williams). That doesn't bode well for McFadden.

Troy Smith hands down. Probably in a landslide. But my question is where is Florida's twoheaded monster Leabow on the ballot?

Leak's ballot got intercepted by an Arkansas lineman.

Smith only had 5 INTs this year and 2 of 'em were Tressel's fault so I only count 3.

It will be interesting to see the voting by region afterwards.

Troy Smith in the midwest, split with Quinn in the NE, McFadden all over the south, Quinn out west would be my guess.

Smith wins everywhere, possibly the most lopsided vote in the history of the award. Quinn second.

I'm actually surprised by the absence of Slaton, though. And a little miffed. I'm going to guess his midseason case of fumblitis cost him an invite. Maybe the South Florida game, too...

Leak never deserved a mention, but he lost it well before he optioned to an Arkansas linemen.

When did the Heisman finalists go from five to three? I know they did this last year too. I thought it was only a one time thing.

Anyway, Smith wins hands down. I don't know how the star QB of the #1 team with impressive stats doesn't win.

This would've been more interesting if Adrian Peterson never got injured

Agree with the prediction - but who will win the real "award" in April, when Brady Quinn becomes the first overall player selected in the NFL draft and whose pro contract will be worth (conservatively) ten times that of Troy Smith, who at his size - listed as 6'1" but widely believed to be a lot closer to 5'11" - will be lucky if he's picked in the first round at all?

Troy Smith is kind of like Brad Banks of Iowa from 2002. I think Smith is the clearly the Heisman winner this year, but don't think he'll be that great in the NFL.

This one is a waste of time to even watch,...because it is Troy Smith easily!

To be honest, I nearly typed in "Troy Brown"! You all would have eat'n me up for that!

Brad Banks can't throw like Smith. No one knows for sure what kind of pro he'll be. If he was 2 inches taller he'd be a top ten pick. I've never bought this crap about height being the ultimate factor in determining what kind of pro a quarterback will be. Smith has a great arm, great escape ability, can run to pick up yards when necessary but has cut back enough to be an effective pro--and he plays his best in big games. He's clutch. I'll take that over Henne's 6'4'' or whatever Quinn is.

Anyway, I'm so sick of the NFL/ESPN mindset. Who cares what kind of pro he'll be? He was the best player in college football this year, let the guy enjoy it before the crystal ball pro talk. Who cares?

The Louisville game cost Slaton big time. Everyone saw him cough the ball up like it was his job in that game. After that his Heisman hopes were in all likelihood over.

I don't know that I would completely dismiss him from being a first rounder altogether, and he has Drew Brees to thank for that. Brees is showing that a six foot QB can succeed in the NFL, and a lot of folks in the media are starting to label him as a more mobile version of Brees.

"Smith back to pass, he's under a rush, he throws ... and it's batted down!"

That's why height matters at the quarterback position.

Because if we incorporate college football into the NFL the college game will improve. You know, just like the quality of college basketball has improved over the last 20 years with the NBA adopting it as a league for future development.

Wait a sec...let me give another for that one.

That is all well and good, but if Brees can complete 66% of his passes then why can't Smith? Bress is listed as only 6' 0" tall.
