Question So Who Will Take The A-Train?

The A-Train has yet to pull out of the station;
But what city will be his ultimate destination?

I'm not sure why you're so interested in the destination of a second-string third down back... You're as interested in him as the folks around here are about Mike Cloud--but the interest here is because he's a local boy. Are you related to Anthony Thomas? Or do you have a specific thing for guys with whom you share a first name?

Thomas won't sign a contract till after the draft, because he's a lesser back than some of the rookies coming in next month.

Dave

He's nothing but a back up RB now imo. Thomas Jones took his job for crying out loud!. Maybe he could start for the Rhein Fire?.

Maybe Anthony just likes players who share his name. But I agree with Dave and Pimpbot it's doubtful he'll be anything more than serviceable, so there's no need to make him a big deal.

The dude has two thousand-yard seasons on his resume and he's only 27 years old; plus with the 3-4 defense becoming more popular again a running back with his size and running style has more upside than he would have otherwise.

In the right spot, Thomas could put a team over the top and enable them to win a Super Bowl (and it's patently obvious what specific team I have in mind here!).

And since we seem to be playing the "name game" here, what about TE Anthony Becht signing with the Buccaneers? Might not be a bad move.

I'll take Miami, I never believe a team to actually pick whom they should in the draft, so Miami it is. Cedric Benson owns.

I don't know the 'Ricky Returns Rumor' monster is starting to rear its ugly head again. Supposedly Ricky is off the weed and is contemplating, yet again, returning to the Dolphins.

I think teams will leave A-Train alone til after the draft unless there's a team in need that misses out on all other free agent RBs and does not have a top-15 pick. Eagles might qualify

Anthony, I thought of you when posting this article: https://www.sports-central.org/sport...saturation.php

What are your thoughts? It essentially boils down to the fact that getting a good RB is not very difficult, which sort of echoes my lacking enthusiasm for the A-Train.

A-Train is a serviceable back who, with a decent front line, can get you 1000+ but not in crunch time or if he's counted on to break tackles routinely.

Being called serviceable for an NFL back is like being called a "nice guy" by a girl you're interested in. In otherwords, if the 'bad boys" aren't available, she'll likely settle for you....for now. It means the same for an NFL 'serviceable" back...if no "bad asses" are available, they'll settle for Train...for now.

But I've watched him for years & he's definitely not the kind of back that "puts you over the top". Everyone is showing what they think of him by waiting to see how things shake out with no apparent urgency from anyone.....

I was wondering what happend to this guy. 2 seasons ago he was destroying everyone and was like on of the premier backs. This season it just seemed like he was dumped for no reason. Was he playing badly, or playing at all?

Actually a lot of his success came from the Bears having a magical season where they all basically played "over their heads". In his sophomore season, where Ds started to give him attention based on that 1 year success, found his weakness for going down with the initial hit & not being too good (to put it mildly) at finding the hole & getting tied up at the LOS.

Granted, the whole offense was exposed without the key TOs the D was getting the year before but it still didn't hide the fact that a lot of the big plays from A-Train the previous year were from holes opened by the line that you could have driven a RV thru.....

A bird in the hand is worth two on the draft board - especially when either or both of the two might no longer be on the board when your turn to pick comes around.

We all missed it: Thomas signed with Dallas - on May 4! (I was on vacation in New York at the time - but still!)
