2007 Recruits and Rumors

Anyone hear about O.J Mayo? Supposedly going to USC.

I heard Bill Walker being a 5 year high school student might be avalible for next years draft. http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/9548336

Kevin Love is thinking of UCLA.

What happened to Mayo going to Kansas State? I thought he was following Huggins.

da12ken 07-26-2006 02:44 PM

OJ is supposedly a silent SC commit, but who really knows? He also is believed to like Kansas State and Florida. Love committed to the Bruins yesterday. Walker supposedly likes Kansas State.

Slinky 07-26-2006 02:52 PM

Yeah.

Mayo is supposedly thinking of USC, Kansas State, and then Florida in that order. Or at least last I read. Walker will probably go wherever Mayo goes.

da12ken 07-26-2006 03:01 PM

The big caveat is that Walker doesn't want to go to USC, and that's why Mayo has held off announcing for the Trojans, since he wants Bill to come along with him to LA. Walker wants OJ to instead come to Manhattan with him and Michael Beasley (a Kansa State commit). All this is allegedly, of course.

ESPN jumped the gun earlier this month when they said OJ Mayo has committed to USC. I don't know if there is an exact order like Slinky suggested, but USC, Kansas State and Florida do appear to be the top three schools in contention.

Mayo had said that a decision should be expected on July 7th, but obviously that day has come-and-passed.

And besides UCLA, I have heard Kevin Love is considering North Carolina.

Is it official Ken that Love has committed?

da12ken 07-26-2006 05:00 PM

Yea, Love committed yesterday.

As for Mayo, I think it is depends on Walker, and vice versa. Walker is a five year high schooler and is supposedly avalible(per nbadraft.net) and that might cause Mayo's decision to change.

I think Mayo is leaning toward USC if Walker does pro. If Walker doesn't, they might go to Kansas State.

As a fan, I want them to go to Kansas State. Kansas State was my parents school, and I'm a UCLA fan. Best of both worlds. :D

No offense to USC, but that's a football school. Why not go somewhere with tradition and passionate fans? Like Kansas, UCLA, North Carolina, Kentucky?

doublee 07-28-2006 06:24 PM

Because if he goes to USC he will be the man right off the bat his freshman year whereas if he went to Carolina he might have to come off the bench and potentially see his draft status waver a bit.

How did that hurt Marvin Williams? No. 2 pick. :)

da12ken 07-28-2006 06:46 PM

The media market in LA is also a factor.

And didn't Marvin go #2? To the Hawks though...

Marc 07-28-2006 06:48 PM

Err! I was going to edit my post, but you caught me, Ken. Too fast, less than a minute! Geesh. :)

While looking up Williams, I realized I am older than him. Wow, still weird.

It didn't, but wouldn't you agree that you stand a better chance of enchancing your draft status if you go someplace where you will play right away?

Slinky 07-29-2006 05:52 PM

Pretty much O.J just wants to go to a place that will take him and his buddy Walker and let them chuck shots for a year.

Both are an one year rental, so I don't expect big schools to be that interested and invest time recruiting them anyways. It isn't like Mayo is that interested in winning a championship in the NCAA.

As for Marvin Williams, I doubt he wanted an one and done year. It just happened with his stock so high.
