The worse get worse.
Martin Straka has left the Pens.. he was traded to the Kings for a bag of pucks.

Can this team get any more pathetic?

You go to watch a game with Pittsburgh playing to see Fleury and Mario... Mario is injured 90% of the time and Fleury rarely plays on the road. They've traded away all their stars for virtually nothing... ok, a few prospects... but not even GOOD or market-value prospects for guys like Jagr and Straka and Kovalev.

The two players Pittsburgh got in this trade don't even have player pages on

lmanchur. 12-01-2003 11:56 PM says the total salary COMBINEd of these two players is 0.425 million... 100% of which is one of the two players 'cuz the other guy is $0 since he is still a minor league player. Straa's salaray was 4.25 million.

This should have undoubtedbly be disallowed by Mr. Bettman. What a disgrace.... and the guys are were saying how much of an advantage this is for teams like Philly and the New York's 'cuz they get to play then Pens 6 times!!! Yay, 12 points for those teams... meanwhile, everyone out West and in the Northeast are fighting like dogs for points.

Its a joke. The league needs to get a new CBA sorted out.

There have been far worse circumstances before. The Pens threw the last dozen or so games way back when, just so they could get Lemieux in the draft. I don't see how dealing off one more guy will make much difference considering how horrendous they are right now anyways.

There are two things that are major factors why they are losing: Having an 18 year old goalie who's not ready to be number one, with no true backup to help him out, and having Mario out with injury for most of the season, everything else is just kicking sand onto the open, gaping wound.

Yes, Philly and the Rangers seem to have an advantage, but maybe they'll falter against the Pens by being overconfident, or maybe another young prospect will emerge and step up their game like Fata had before he hurt himself.

Frankly, I see the move being smart for a team that's bleeding money, has no chance of winning in the grand scheme of things anyways, and is building towards the post CBA future.

I just heard that Tarnstrom is next on the block for Pitt.

Might as well dump your best defenseman too...

lmanchur. 12-07-2003 07:34 PM

...and your best goalie while you're at it.

Looks like Caron will be getting the work done in net as has early reports that Mr. Fleury will be back for Team Canada in this year's WJHC. I question this for Canada's sake though... last year he was the only guy not drafted by an NHL team... this year will be be the only guy that is drafted!! Quite a turnaround!!... but the main thing is, is that he doesn't want to be there... he wanted to give up the $4 million so he could stay in Pittsburgh.. but his agent wouldn't let him 'cuz that woudl be a bad precident for other rookies going intot he new CBA. I just hope his heart is with Canada and not down in the dumps for this tournament.

Yeah it's not the money that he wants... he'd be willing to defer or decline some or all of that bonus just to stay with the team. Obviously the union would never let that slide so it's out of his hands. Pittsburgh has no intention of paying that bonus no matter what.

I think he'll be fine once he gets situated and accepts that he needs to leave the NHL for a while. He's still young, he's got a bright future.
