Trade deadline moves to come

Cliff Lee is probably the biggest name we'll see traded this year. What other player movement will we see in the nine days?

I have a hunch the White Sox, Tigers and Twins will all pick up players. The Sox are in the market for a bat, the Twins and Tigers are looking for pitching. The Royals and Indians might be looking to move a few salaries (DeJesus, Westbrook, Carmona are names that come to mind).
The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays are all looking to upgrade their benches and bullpens.
The Orioles and Jays might be sellers.
The Rangers might be done, with their ownership in limbo. The Angels and A's might move people (the A's could go either direction), and the Mariners might be sellers again.
The Phillies are looking for an arm, and may move Werth to see what Dominic Brown can do. The Marlins may surprise a few people by moving a few pieces (Uggla is a marketable commodity, as are some of their outfielders). The Mets need to bring a pitcher in, but they have other needs as well. The Braves could use another outfielder and possibly a bench player to fill in for Chipper when he has his next trip to the DL. The Nationals have some very tradeable pieces -- Dunn, Guzman, Willingham -- and could bring in some prospects for these guys.
The Cubs will likely be sellers, as will the Brewers and Astros (although the Astros may have trouble getting what they want for Myers and Oswalt. Lee and Berkman could also move). The Cardinals really need a reliable closer, but there aren't many available (possibly Matt Capps?) and could use a starter. The Reds might be in the market for a starter. The Pirates have some good pieces to move, so I expect them to be sellers as well.
The D'Backs could pick up some very good prospects, and cut some salary, by moving Haren, Kelly Johnson, and Mark Reynolds. The Rockies could use some bench players, especially one that can play 1B, and some pitching. The Giants need a bat. The Pads could use some bench strength, although they are very deep as it is. The Dodgers may not be able to do anything, due to ownership problems.

I'd like to see the Red Sox make some moves, the Sawx need some GREAT bench players, they have had more guys on the DL this season than any other team I would venture to guess.

Jacoby, Beckett, even guys like A.B. and Dice- K. Sox are staying within 10 in the toughest division in baseball, thats hard to believe with half their team on the DL.

By the way, Welcome to the boards, Jeremy.
Here is Fox Sports' John Paul Morosi's take on the trade deadline:

Go Indians trade all the hopes and dreams of your team away like you have been season after season!

I'd say the Cards need another stater moreso than an upgrade at closer right now.

Jaime Garcia has never thrown more than 155 innings in a season and is already at 110 for the year.

Nobody knows if Brad Penny will even pitch again this season.

Nobody knows when Kyle Lohse will be back and he was pitching like garbage to begin with this season.

Jeff Suppan has given them only one quality start in his seven outings.

Blake Hawksworth belongs in the bullpen

As for available closers I would imagine that guys like Joakim Soria and Leo Nunez could be had for the right price as well.

The Red Sox need help, I've officially decided, and they have the money to spend. I dunno who they are intrested in though.

Welcome to the site, Jeremy! :wavey: Who's your team and how'd you find us?

catman 07-26-2010 06:52 PM

Danny Haren to the Angels. He may be spun off for a bat or 2.

NAR(cotics) 07-26-2010 07:37 PM

Thats a mistake, the Angels didn't need pitching they needed offense, it doesn't matter how good your pitching staff is if you cant get any outs.

The consensus is they are making the move for the future. They did need another arm and did not give up a lot to get him.

NAR(cotics) 07-27-2010 03:05 PM

So are they conceeding the division to the Rangers this year?

The 4 pitchers they gave up are all in their top prospects (Saunders is a reliable #3-4 starter).

catman 07-27-2010 03:23 PM

Twins are alleged to be nearing a deal with the Jays for a pitcher. Not sure if its a starter or reliever they are discussing.

Well, it is pretty rare for a team to close a 8.5 game gap after the break and they are even further out in the wild card race.
