My Dad had a Stroke
My mom and dad went to Norway a few weeks ago. That is where my grandfather was from(Oslo). On the third day of their trip my dad had a major stroke while waiting on a train. My dad is 72. He immediately went to the hospital in Oslo for 10 days then was transported by air medical back to the USA. The plane trip cost $86,000. The insurance will pay most of it, but we had to get our local congressman to make the insurance company pay. It was an ordeal. My dad is in serious condition and has no feeling on the left side of his body. He is now in a rehab hospital here in Mobile. Those that believe in prayer please say one for him and my mom. My mom is really stressed out and her health is not good. She is 70. Thanks

Sorry to hear that, Keith. Hope everything will turn out OK. I'll be sure to keep your family in my prayers.

Anytime. We're like a family here, aren't we?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My mother has breast cancer, so I know what it is like to have a parent sick. I'll be praying for your dad. Hope he's OK.

I must add that I hope that your mother gets better, Jared. All my prayers to her and Keith's dad.

The fact that your father is still alive is a pretty good sign. Usually, and I have some considerable experience in this area as I work in Geriatric Psych, the stroke victim that survives the first week will recover at least some of their function.
His condition is serious and that is a concern. He will be in my thoughts also. Hopefully, as I said, he will recover some of his abilities. Good luck to you and your family. Your medical situations are not much fun, I'm sure.
There are places where you can get more info about strokes, and the rehab hospital should have them. I would suggest that you speak with the hospital social workers and get some of the info from them. They are a great source of support and information and do a good job of comforting families that need help.
Jared, what sort of breast cancer does your mother have? My wife just had a mastectomy a couple of weeks ago and will begin her course of chemotherapy in a couple of weeks, then radiation for about a month. Its a long, tough course of treatment, but usually it is successful.

My saying is: "It always works out in the end." And in this case, I'm sure it will, he should be able to tough it out.

Brandon is right. Catman, you help out a lot of people with your medical knowledge, which is great.

My dad is doing a lot better-he can now move his left leg, but not his arm.

air_canada 04-08-2002 06:10 PM

Great!!! He'll keep getting better gradually. :)
