Default Another Bad Guy in Custody

US troops captured one of al Qaeda's masterminds of the 7/7 attacks in London as he attempted to enter Iraq from Iran. He was a former member of Saddam's inner-circle.

I thought there was no connection between Saddam and al Qaeda?

The fact that this dude once served in the Iraqi army while Saddam was in power means absolutely nothing.

Didn't Pope Benedict XVI serve in Hitler's army?

And there was never any need to link Al Qaeda specifically to Saddam to begin with: All they had to do was point out that on the eve of the invasion Iraq had by far the largest standing army in the Islamic bloc, and, in fact, the fourth largest on the planet (if we could have taken the Soviet Union out 50 years ago, don't you think we would have done it?).

But no - Bush and the neoconartists had to take shortcuts: Rather than be satisfied with the 65-70 per cent support from the American public they would have surely attracted had they pleaded the case that way, they tried to go for the whole ball of wax by telling the American people outright lies.

They drew one card too many - and went over.

Really? How do you know that this guy was not a member of both al Qaeda and Saddam's inner circle at the same time? It isn't hard to connect the dots, especially when it is a fact that Saddam was using State funds to support terrorist groups.

Unless I missed something, this is all I saw in that article about his involvement with Hussein :

"Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran and was transferred this week to the “high-value detainee programme” at Guantanamo Bay."

Perhaps there is other information I don't have about this, but the article posted didn't seem to mention anything about al-Iraqi being part of any 'inner circle'. Maybe he was, I just didn't see anything to indicate it here.

As far as Hussein using state funds to support terror groups, I thought that we hadn't found any direct evidence of that? I admit I'm not as informed as many others about this.

This is one thing I believe that came from the UN, Montrovant. His regime was a major financial supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah.
As I said, it doesn't take much to connect the dots here.

This is true of nearly every country in the middle-east, including Saudi Arabia - George Bush's "second home."

If sponsoring terror justifies an attack, why are we not in Saudia Arabia, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt?

How many of these countries are using State funds to sponsor terrorist activities?
By the way, we already have troops in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

To the best of my knowledge, all of these countries have given money to the families of suicide bombers, which is all Saddam was guilty of in terms of "sponsoring terror." Providing funds for suicide bombers' family is the norm in the middle east, it is almost a necessity of staying in power.

We also have troops in Germany. I am talking about the type of presence that we have in Iraq. Many of these states are much mroe dangerous and much more involved with terrorism than Saddam ever was. That is the point.

Really? Are the other countries -- other than Iran -- using their treasuries to fund terrorist activities?

Like I said, you will find that the majority of leaders in the middle east have used state funds or personal funds to pay the families of suicide bombers.

Other than paying suicide bombers' families, how did Saddam fund terror?

And why do we have troops in Germany? Because it was a defeated country, and we could. It too had it's hands in terrorism at one time.
