Default Where Will Pedro Martinez be Pitching Next Year?

"Who's your daddy now?" The famous line from Boston Red Sox Pitcher Pedro Martinez was constantly chanted at Yankee Stadium during Game Seven of the Red Sox victory over the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. The truth is, the Red Sox became the Yankees' "daddy" en route to a stunning comeback win over the Yanks after being down 3-0 in the Series and then routed the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. The result: the first Red Sox title in 86 years.

In both the ALCS and the World Series, Martinez had two strong starts and further helped his chances of being re-signed by the Sox for next season. Martinez's contract expired after the season and he is now a free agent. Had Pedro and the Sox lost to the Yankees, his chances of re-signing with the Sox would have been a lot less certain. He is still Pedro and means a tremendous amount to the Red Sox and their fans. He is a key part of that team and one of the best pitchers that baseball has seen in the past five years.

"There are several teams that not only could really use an ace like Pedro, but are seriously going to court him in the off-season," said Wagerweb.com CEO Dave Johnson. "We have already received a lot of wagers on Pedro staying with the Red Sox as well as him going to the rival Yankees. We have also taken some money on Martinez going to the San Francisco Giants and reuniting with his former manager Felipe Alou."

The Red Sox will make a serious run at re-signing Martinez and will most likely not be able to re-sign ALCS Game Seven starter Derek Lowe. The Sox will most likely not be able to sign both of them, and if they had to choose, General Manager Theo Epstein would most likely go with Pedro. The Yankees are rumored to be interested, and so are the San Francisco Giants, the New York Mets, and the Florida Marlins.

I think he'll be back in Boston. He'll be offered a contract like Schilling's, which I think he has. He'll come back to the BoSox.

I think he will finish his career out in Boston. He's a legend there, and there is less pressure now that the curse is broken.

I'd say, if I were a betting man, that Pedro will likely remain with the Red Sox. I think he likes the team they have around him now and appreciates Schilling taking some of the heat off him. Where could he go, for the money he wants, and not have the pressure of being #1 again?

I do think the Red Sox will overpay and keep him. But if not, I can't actually see him going to the Yankees. I think it will be some surprise team swooping in to get him if the Red Sox don't keep him.

It depends... If Pedro feels that he deserves a moster contract now that he won them a ring which he most likely will nobody will be sure if boston will be willing to pay him that much with all the free agents form their team. I think they will chose between Lowe and Pedro though

I really think Baltimore could be a real sleeper. The O's aren't going to go on a spending spree like last off season but I could see them spending enough to fulfill Pedro's wants now that he has a ring.

Next year he will still be with boston i think i heard on espn that boston is giving him a 2 year at about 25.5 million so that alone will make him come back to boston other than them winning another world series

I think he may have three place where he will go:

Re-sign with Boston
Anaheim

The last severe option: The Yankees.

He meet with Darth Vader personally and the Red Sox flew down to Florida to meet with him. I think the Sox may be a little worried about losing....to the Yankees.

I could see back in the NL since he's been there before. Plus he was managed by Felipe Alou in Montreal. It all depends on how much the Giants are willing to spend.
