Meh, I guess. To me is still one of the most overrated pitchers in baseball.

He's got something most pitchers in the majors don't have-A World Series ring. Wasn't he MVP of that series?

Great, Don Larsen pitched a perfect game and ended up with the MVP in a WS, it didn't necessarily mean he was a great pitcher.

The thing that gets me with Beckett is that all I hear from the guys on Baseball Tonight is how he has having such a great season yet this is arguably the worst season of his career. So far he is posting his highest career ERA (4.78), has already given up a career high in homers (27), fewest K's/9 highest average against, and he has never been healthy enough to pitch 200 innings in a season. Beckett is a great thrower but he still does not strike me as a good 'pitcher' as of yet.

In that ballpark, with the coaching he gets in Boston, he should become the pitcher that everyone thinks he will. He can throw it with anyone, and is developing an idea what to do against the hitters. Remember, he's not faced the AL much before now. Varitek will help him a lot, IMO, as will Schilling and Wakefield.

I dont know how you can say he's not a "good" pitcher yet. Granted, he's getting rocked in HR's... but this guy can throw, and to "repeat", he was WS MVP... that says something. Unless a guy just loses his stuff, I gotta say any pitcher that was a WS MVP is good IMO.

Well, let us not confuse pitching and throwing. Guys like Pedro, Clemens, and Maddux are 'pitchers' whereas guys like Beckett, Kerry Wood, and Randy Johnson are throwers who just rear back and fire fastballs in the upper-90s and dare hitters to hit it. The couple of times I have watched Beckett this year he just seems to roll out there and try and blaze everyone with his fastball which is why he is getting lit up all the time. He has a great curveball but does not seem to rely on it that much, possibly due to his history with blisters? He just doesn't seem to have a grasp for the mental nuances of pitching yet and still has yet to complete a season without missing 5-7 starts due to trips to the DL, hence my statement that he is not a good 'pitcher' yet but a guy with the talent to be one.

That is not to say he won't ever be in Boston, my rub is that the media wants to convince us that he is having a fabulous year when he is getting killed every start he makes.

The home runs worry me too, though he may be learning ... he was part of that 1-0 game the other day.

Beckett became MLB's 1st 13-game winner thus far, today with a win over the A's. Of course he gave up another HR... Should he be considered for the CY-Young if he continues to get wins? His ERA is nothing great IMO. I just wonder, he gets great run support and could easily get 20+ wins this season.

So, Jason Marquis leads the NL in wins and you don't see anyone mentioning him for the Cy Young Award.

Besides, some of the guys behind him with 12 wins have far superior numbers overall than Beckett does. I'd vote for Liriano, Schilling, Verlander, Papelbon, and probably Halladay before I ever considered Beckett as a Cy Young candidate.

Beckett has been hard lately. Some fans think he will flounder toward the end of the season. I hope not.

He very well may. Come September he will be at or near career highs in starts and innings.

This guy lost again. I'm afraid he's displaying his old characteristics. Not being consistent. Lost to Detroit 7-4. His ERA is now 5.02.

This may be one mistake Boston has done. How can they resign a guy who has a bloated 5 something era?

He has been a big disappointment in the second half of the season.
