Default A-Rod Tested positive for steroids in 2003

Quote:
In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

Interesting, though not terribly surprising.

Yeah, I always suspected A Rod. Then again, I question almost every power hitter to come out of that era

If I am not mistaken he was named in Canseco's book as well but nobody wanted to believe it because of his stature in the game and he was not a big tool like Barry Bonds is.

The funny thing is I remember a couple of years back watching a Yankees game and the announcers claiming he dropped some weight because he decided he was getting too big and was losing some of his flexibility.

I'm interested in the other 103 names.

Report: A-Rod Admits Using Performance-enhancers

By RONALD BLUM

NEW YORK (AP) -Alex Rodriguez has admitted using performance-enhancing drugs.

The New York Yankees star responded to Sports Illustrated's report that he tested positive for steroids in 2003 by recording an interview Monday with ESPN.

"I did take a banned substance. For that I'm very sorry and deeply regretful," he said.

Sadly, I'm not shocked, and nor are most people, it seems. But I was watching ESPN and the commentators were making a good point about how this is potentially worse for A-Rod than Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, etc. Those guys had this come out at the end of their careers or in retirement, while A-Rod still has 10 years at least of playing (he's signed through 2017!). This could be a dark cloud over him for the rest of his career. Those other guys could hide in seclusion.

Gives new meaning to his "A-Fraud" nickname doesn't it?

Yea it's bad for A-Rod but I have a lot more respect for him than guys like Pettitte and Fernando Vina, who want the public to believe they took PEDs once (to get back to the game they love so much) and stopped when they didn't work for them. Yea, sure guys.

I'm not defending those guys but they aren't the stature of A-Rod. Every "admission" is based in what will move us along at the quickest possible pace in terms of media scrutiny. For Pettitte and Vina, giving that b.s. angle was enough to move on cuz nobody really cared. For A-Rod, the circumstances and circus to follow can't be summed up that neatly so he went this route...which is throwing himself at the mercy of the media court.

In a way, A-Rod and Nadia Sulaiman are kindred spirits - in that they both provide convenient targets for the kind of people who are always in the market to look down on others from a "moral" standpoint.

If they were something more than that, then how come their fiercest (hypo-)critics have almost nothing to say about how they would like either of them to be punished?

Do we now ban A-Rod from baseball for life, or throw Nadia Sulaiman in jail?

Apparently, just having them around to bash is gratifying enough.

Isn't it convenient that A-Rod is the only name to leak from confidential court documents?

And I still put the most blame on Major League Baseball and the entire sports media for turning a blind-eye to this outright obvious story that was smacking everyone in the face a decade ago with Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa.

I am so over this story. Was there really a need for all of the quotes on the ESPN ticker last night and this morning?
