Default Mets to overhaul?

Wright: Mets need 'facelift' after consecutive September collapses

NEW YORK -- With the New York Mets coming off consecutive September collapses, David Wright is ready for a few significant changes.

"You go through two seasons that we've been through the last couple years and you're going to need a little bit of a facelift," Wright said Wednesday. "There's 30 teams out there that can use pitching, and obviously we're one of them."

That's why the All-Star third baseman is prepared to do whatever he can to help this winter.

Make a recruiting call? Sure thing.

Show a free agent around town? Say when.

"I live here most of the offseason, so if the organization wants me to be a tour guide or make a phone call, I'll be more than happy to do that," Wright said at his Hard Rock Cafe charity event in Times Square.

I guess it's a good attitude to have in bringing in new guys but what if brass doesn't deliever? Will Wright have egg on his face?

Who do the Mets need to bring in?

Or...should they stay pat and simply hope the last two late-season collapses are a thing of the past?

They, like every team, need more pitching.

The best fit IMO is Derek Lowe.

Francisco Rodriguez would be a good fit as well.

I agree. I wonder what kind of price tag he will have

Only if you can get him for a decent price. The fact that the Angels have not even made him an offer leads me to believe he wants a pretty substantial contract and I don't know that he is worth more than a 3 year deal right now. His numbers have been going down the past couple of years and I think he may have already peaked. Remember how Thigpen's career went in the crapper after setting the record.

I have heard the Mets are interested in Brian Fuentes.

Mostly the Mets need to overhaul the 'pen and add another quality starter. It will be interesting to see if they maybe make a run at Dempster who seems interested in testing the market.

Derrek Lowe would suffer from poor infield defense in New York. They need guys that can blow hitters away or get them to hit the ball to the big part of the ballpark.
They need to improve at 2B, and the corner outfield positions, along with catcher. Carlos Delgado had a good "comeback" year, but can he continue to hit the way he did last season?
They are solid at 3B, SS, and CF. They have 2 very good starters and a couple of decent relievers. They have the payroll flexibility to go after the high ticket players and a nice new ballpark to play in next season.
I can see the Mets being very active this off season and being competitive next season.
