Default Teixeira to the Angels

For Casey Kotchman and AA lefty Stephen Marek.

People down here were convinced he was coming here. I think the Angels came out on top of this one.

The Angels have the financial ability to sign him long-term. Would the Rays be able to make that sort of financial commitment?

No, they probably don't but the Rays probably could have afforded to part with a couple of prospects if they thought Teixeira would put them over the top.

On paper, the Angels just won the AL. Lets see what the Red Sox and Yankees do. Maybe even the White Sox, but they really don't have a lot of prospects they are willing to send away.

What else can the Yankees and Red Sox do? The Angels were already slapping the Red Sox around as it was and they go out and get probably the best player available this year.

This is likely the best deal available this season. The Angels gave up a lot to get Tex, and will have to pay a lot to keep him, but if he brings a championship to LA, the deal will be considered successful. Signing him to a long-term deal will be among their first priorities this off-season.

I really can't disagree with that statement.

I know it's a little late, but I was on vacation when this went down. Kotchman could be a solid player and Marek will end up middle relief I'm guessing if he makes it to the big leagues. I would of thought Frank Wren could have squeezed a little bit more out of Tex, but I knew better than to expect anything close to the bounty the Braves gave up last year.

I think this is a great deal for the Halos, they didn't give up any of their top prospects and got one heck of a push for the postseason. The AL should be pretty exciting in the playoffs there will be four quality teams, more than the NL can say this year.
