Default Cliff Lee spurs Yanks, choose Philly

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/s...=ESPNHeadlines

Didn't see this one coming. But I like how the Yanks were spurned ... everyone just assumed they were going to get him with that huge offer.

The Phils have a ridiculous lineup now ... Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt. Best since ... when? Wow.

I kinda think everyone just keeps forgetting about Texas, they offered him the most potential money. Poor Texas.

Wasn't ever going to happen in new york....

Fans' treatment of Cliff Lee's wife at Yankee Stadium was ugly, but it might not have hurt the Yankees' recruitment of one of the game's top left-handed pitchers.

During the American League Championship Series games in New York between the Yankees and Rangers, fans were extremely rude to Kristen Lee, spitting and throwing beer in her direction and shouting obscenities.

Lee and his wife have said multiple times that did not factor into their decision. They made a pro-con list for every city and Philly was biggest. They loved Philly. Always have always will.

Right fans cuss and spit on your wife and that doesn't factor into your choice? Not me.

Tell me something, how many other players wives do you think they have done that too who ended up signing on for the money?

The Yankees offer more money, and a higher capacity to win. Players sign for that, not for the fans. YOU THINK PHILLY FANS ARE ANY BETTER! THEY BOOED SANTA CLAUSE!

No, I did not say that. I am stating facts. It is widely known that what the Yankees fans did to his wife DID NOT factor into his decision.

From what he said in his news conference, his wife was never mistreated in the way the press made out that she was and that her attitude toward the Yankees' fans did not factor into the final decision. He said that he hoped that the Phillies would get into the negotiations because he did not want to leave.
Its nice to see that a player would make a decision on where he was happy, as opposed to where he could make the most money. Like LeBron James said when asked about it, "When you're talking about over $100MM, $20MM won't change your lifestyle very much."

Sorry guys we'll just have to agree to disagree. First of all NO player is going to come out in the press and say his wife prevented him from going to this place or that one. Second, wise up a bit. There is going to be less pressure in Philly then there would be in Gotham. Philly has a stable of first class pitchers, he would be counted on more in New York.

I don't think Cliff Lee is really worried about pressure. He had plenty of pressure on him in Texas and Cleveland and Seattle.
