Today a kid asked me what a "platter" was in regards to music. When I told her it was an old slang term for a phonograph (note the pronunciation) record she announced in amazement...

Yeah, Band on the Run was a good album. With that said, neither Lennon or McCartney were the same without George Martin. He's definitely the most overlooked element to the Beatles. I think it was People Magazine that called Sgt. Pepper's "George Martin's new album" in a review when it first came out

I believe the only solo album either of them did with Martin was McCartney's Tug Of War.

I'm pretty sure you're right on Tug Of War but could be wrong. Lennon's solo stuff has grown on me in the last decade or two. Always liked it, but appreciate it more now. It was just so frustrating that Yoko f'd everything up.

I don't like Lennon's solo stuff. For how creative he was with the Beatles, his solo-stuff is really straightforward. And it goes back to George Martin: Lennon's solo music just didn't have the full-body that The Beatles stuff did. I'd say the same thing about McCartney, but McCartney's solo music was much more creative, IMO. Songs like Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey could have passed as a song on Abbey Road.

Let It Be, produced by Spector, was alright; there's no the George Martin feel to it. What made the album for me was Billy Preston-- he really stole the show. I love the electric piano and organ parts he has on the album. Who doesn't love his electric piano solo in Get Back ?

One problem with your plan.... no basement down here in the swamp land. So the attic will have to do and it's hot as hell up there. You might melt.

Depending on the day, I could go with any of 'em as my favorite though the slight overall edge would probably go to Pepper's.

I have given up beer more or less. I'll have a couple here and now, but drinking it to get drunk is a waste. Takes at least a six-pack to feel anything now, and it gives you a gut. Straight liquor or go home... Bacardi 151, 75% alcohol, is the choice and it is some hardcore stuff.
