Default Is It Fair That The Cardinals Have Home Field Advantage?

Since the Cardinals were a wild-card team while the Rangers won their division, shouldn't the home-field advantage go to the division champion?

That stipulation needs to be added to the admittedly stupid procedure (its inherent stupidity being a suitable topic for a different thread) currently in force that gives the league that wins the All-Star Game the home-field advantage in the World Series.

Who else here agrees?

I tend to agree with you, but the way it's done now isn't entirely without reason. If the best players in the NL beat the best players in the AL, that seems to indicate that the top talent in the NL is superior. If so, were the 96-70 (and healthy) Rangers really better than the 90-72 (and banged-up) Cardinals in the regular season?

The Rangers went 11-19 against playoff teams in the regular season.

The Cardinals went 20-17 against such teams in that time.

That is to say, the Cardinals played a greater number of games against elite teams AND fared better in those games than did the Rangers.

I think game 7 is right were it should be.

The way Mr. Selig decided to award home-field it is fair. I don't think this is the best way to do it, however. The team with the best record should have the advantage.
