Futurama is solid. I'm pretty sure FOX is bringing that show back (a la what happened to Family Guy).

Forgot to mention this earlier, but I watched a little bit of that movie "Two For the Money" with Matthew McConnaghey & Al Pacino last night.

It amazes me that people pay big bucks for a freakin' tout service. What a joke!!!

I need to watch Rounders again. That's such an enjoyable movie... minus the whole law school/girlfriend thing. Just get to the gambling!

Truer words have never been spoken.

Plus, it features two of the best actors over the last ten years -- Matt Damon and Edward Norton.

Speaking of Edward Norton, I suggest everyone go out and rent The Illusionist which is out on video today (featuring another great actor in Paul Giamatti).

I currently have five movies sitting on the kitchen table waiting to be viewed:

1.) Bandidas, a comedic western starring Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek (I am not that interested in seeing if it's a good movie, if you know what I mean)

2.) The romantic comedy Conversations with Other Women starring Aaron Eckhart and Helena Bonham Carter

3.) The IFC drama Factotum starring Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor and Marisa Tomei

4.) Mike Judge's follow-up to Office Space, Idiocracy starring Luke Wilson

5.) The thriller The Night Listener, starring Robin Williams (his last great movie was the thriller One Hour Photo) and Toni Collette

Let me how Idiocracy was when you get a chance. I found that on the IMDB a while ago, and completely forgot about it because I haven't heard ANYTHING about it. I really wanted to see it.

Toby, have you seen A Scanner Darkley yet? It is sitting on my table now just waiting for me to watch it.

Anybody know who this "midwest da best" guy is? He sure is in love with the Big Ten especially the teams from Michigan.

Will do.

I have one currently worked up (along with my favorite performances of the year), but I am still waiting to see Blood Diamond, Children of Men, Dreamgirls, For Your Consideration, The Good German, Letters from Iwo Jima, Little Children, Notes on a Scandal, The Painted Veil and Pan's Labyrinth.

It will probably be May or June before I see all of these films, so I will probably post my top-thirty films of the year (because who can stop at just ten), along with the ten worst films and the overall best performances later this week, if you want?

Do you have a list worked up?

No, I think I saw three movies released in 2006. I never go to the movie theater. Ever. I watch all my movies in class, on Netflix or on TV.

Incidentally, I'm taking Leonard Maltin's class at SC. Basically we watch new releases and a guest speaker comes in and talks about the movie. Last semester one of the movies shown was The Last King of Scotland and Forest Whitaker was the speaker. No assignments either; only a midterm and final. Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to the class.

I assume Grandma's Boy will make your Top Ten. Which Top Ten, well I'll leave that up to you.

P.S. I've actually seen two films released in 2006: Grandma's Boy and Art School Confidential. So, in effect, Grandma's Boy was the best of 2006 for me. Ha!

I thought A Scanner Darkly was pretty good (***/****) with strong performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Winona Ryder.

It is really intriguing, but runs out of steam after awhile. It tries to be more thought-provoking than it should, and runs into the regular Richard Linklater problem of too much talk and not enough show.

It is definitely worth watching.

Also, if you are fan of Linklater's work (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, etc.), I suggest you check out my favorite film of his called Tape.
