Default NBA Off-Season

Instead of making a bunch of threads about different moves, I want to make a sticky thread of the off-seasons trades and transactions for the summer.

TJ Ford was traded for Villunueva
Carmello Anthony is offered a large extension
Cassell agrees to stay with Clippers
Tim Thomas agrees to play with the Clippers
Vladimer Radmanovic agrees to switch lockerooms in LA
Peja Stojakovic agrees to join the Hornets
Talks about Bobby Jackson reuniting with Peja in New Orleans/Oklahoma
Ben Wallace might come back to Detroit
Will the Sixers trade AI to Boston? If not Boston, anywhere else? Or would he remain a Sixer

There are obviously some already answered questions like the Milwaukee/Toronto trade, Cassell remaining a Clipper, Thomas reuniting with Cassell, Radmanovic switching lockerrooms, and Peja signing with the Hornets, but the rest, IMO are unanswered.

Discuss...

I can't watch that commercial without laughing. I don't even really know what I'm laughing at.

I know what you mean - the whole commercial was very disconcerting - this white guy with scraggly hair and nasty 'stache talking about the NBA - I laughed the first time I saw it, too!

Sadly, he's going to bring that mustache and mullet to Charlotte...

Funny that someone joked he'll fit right in.

Well, regardless of whether Big Ben comes to Chicago or not Chandler may be gone. I keep reading all sorts of 'rumors' about him being on the block. My guess is that the Bulls think Thomas will at least be able to rebound as well as Chandler does today and will in time be as good defensively and probably better offensively. Problem being that he is being paid quite a bit for not being a reliable scorer and the Bulls may have to take a clunker contract in return merely to unload him.

Tim Thomas should do just fine with the Clippers he is a more athletic version of Radmanovic. The thing about Thomas is his game is more attuned to the Western Conference style of run-and-gun as opposed to the grind it out halfcourt game the East tends to favor.

My best guess as to why Denver gave Nene that type of money is that they seem hellbent on finding a sucker to take K-Mart off their hands. If that happens then Nene will get playing time to prove his mettle.

Probably not big news to anyone but myself, but Speedy Claxton reportedly to the Hawks. At least they got some kind of PG. Maybe he can help develop Stoudamire.

I would say so, Mike.....

It's one thing to be a good defensive team with a modest offense but entirely another if you're a shutdown type defensive team with that same modest offense. They will have turned the corner with this one IMO...

Speedy Claxton is about the same caliber and pretty much the same type of PG as Tyrunn Lue whom, if I am not mistaken, is still under contract with the Hawks. He became expendable when the Hornets picked up Bobby Jackson. It is another move by the Hawks that makes you wonder what the point of it is as they already have Lue, Royal Ivey, and Stoudamire on the roster.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Salim Stoudamire being anything more than a role player who comes off the bench to give his team some scoring and not much else. His PG skills in college were adequate at best; he really is not much of a ballhandler nor is he an exceptional passer. Maybe the signing of Claxton means they have resided themselves to the idea of not expecting Stoudamire to be little more than a hired gun.

Well, according to ESPN's Rumor Central the Bulls are trying to move Chandler for someone like Carlos Boozer, Troy Murphy, or one of the guys the Hawks have like Josh Smith or Marvin Williams. If they could land one of those guys in exchange for Chandler then the Bulls could be the team to beat in the East. Although, I suspect they may need to pony up a number one as well to get one of those guys.

I'd go with Marvin Williams if I were Chicago. I don't think the Hawks are going to part with Smith for the $ he's making. Atlanta still has Harrington under contract for a decent amount of time (not sure how long). Williams is 20ish and still has an upside.

Boozer has turned into an inconistent cancer. 25 and 10 one night and laziness the next. If memory serves, he still hasn't played a game in Cleveland since he burned the Cavs. Always comes up with an "injury" right around that time.

I think you might be overrating some of those guys doublee if you think the Bulls need to give up a #1 for 'em. Then again, I might be overrating Chandler...LOL.

78, I don't think the Hawks will part w/Williams right now, just b/c this will only be his second season, and his upside is tremendous. Josh Smith is a fan (i guess you can say Atl has fans besides me) favorite. I am hoping they lose Childress to be honest.

Of course, we are talking about Billy Knight. The guy is a moron.

Miami sure knows what they have in Wade. Lightning quick on this extension, wasn't it??

Report: Heat's Wade to sign 5-year extension

It did not take too long for the Miami Heat to reward Dwyane Wade for helping to win the team's first NBA championship.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has reported on its Web site that Wade and the Heat have reached agreement on a five-year contract extension worth $75-$85 million.

Wade's agent, Henry Thomas, has reportedly said that he expects the NBA Finals MVP to sign the deal on July 12, the first day that teams are allowed to sign free agents.

"We're on the same page," Thomas reportedly told the Sun-Sentinel.

Wade is eligible for a deal worth about $80 million; the exact value of the extension, much like the one agreed to by Carmelo Anthony with Denver and the one offered to LeBron James in Cleveland, will not be known until the salary cap for the 2007-08 season is set.

Wade is expected to report to practice with the U.S. world championships team in Las Vegas on July 19. And the two sides had been hoping to strike a deal before then.

But there is no real urgency on either side; he is under contract for next season with the Heat, who will defend their first NBA championship. Without the extension, Wade would become a free agent after the 2007-08 season.

But the Heat quickly made their extension offer. Obviously, they did not want to risk losing Wade during free agency

Wade has repeatedly said he wants to stay in Miami, reiterating that again Monday during a visit to Walt Disney World in Orlando, where he and teammate Udonis Haslem donned Mickey Mouse hats and were grand marshals of a Heat victory parade.

In a more important & serious breaking news....

Bulls mascot charged with attacking officer

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago Bulls mascot dressed in a bright red costume was charged with attacking an off-duty officer after driving a mini-motorcycle through an outdoor festival.

Barry Anderson, the Benny the Bull mascot, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway. The 26-year-old man is accused of throwing a punch at the sheriff's deputy, knocking off his glasses and breaking his watch.

Anderson was riding the motorcycle through the festival without a permit Sunday, Police Capt. James Knightly said. When the off-duty officer, who was working security, tried to stop him, Anderson ran, police said. The officer chased and caught him.

"It would be premature to make any comment at this point until all the information is gathered," Bulls spokesman Tim Hallam said.

Veronica Resa, a spokeswoman with the Mayor's Office of Special Events, said Anderson was entertaining people at the Taste of Chicago festival.

"We always love working with the Chicago Bulls and we know that what happened was not their fault," Resa said.

Anderson's costume was returned to the United Center after his arrest, police said.

In 2005, another Bulls mascot, Da Bull, was sentenced to probation for 1 1/2 years for possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
