Greatest first post, Ken? I think that is sort of like saying Michael Jordan was the greatest Bulls guard of the 80's. When Marc puts out his next newsletter, he should just reprint that post over and over again. I get chills just looking at it.

Ichiro went 3-4... I'm not even sure if the M's won. How sad.

Yankees struggling big time now. Pitching hasn't been consistent. Boston is slowly creeping up the division. They made up 5-6 games in 1 week. I still think the Yankees will win the division, but they are playing like they think they've won the division a month ago. Hey fellas, you got to play until the season is over. They keep playing like this though, you'll hear it from man upstairs

They Yanks need to be careful they still have six games left against the Sox in September if the BoSox can stay within 4-6 games of the Yanks things could get very interesting in September.

I've said before that if the Yankees need to take 3 in a row from the Twins at the end of September to make the playoffs, they are in real trouble. They need to get better starting pitching. The trade for Loiza seems to have been a bad deal, as Contrearas has been pitching better in Chicago and Loiza has "endeared" himself to the Bronx faithful. He'll be somewhere else next season.
King George has some decisions to make now. Do the Yankees go for another starter, moving Loiza on now or do they just use Brown, ElDuque, and Mussina in the playoffs, leaving Loiza off the playoff roster?

They may not even wait until the end of the year to scuttle Loaiza there was a rumor floating around on ESPN's site that the Rangers have submitted a list of minor leaguers they would be willing to part with for Loaiza. The Yanks were supposedly going to scout the players and decide if there were two or three of them they were interested in.
But, what a horrible trade that was for the Yankees. Contreras has pitched like everyone knew he could since coming to the White Sox winning three of his four starts and giving up one run in an eight inning no decision. I am not sure why the Yanks were hot to get this guy he has been going down hill all season long, and it is not as if Stottlemyre has a long and distinguished record of turning guys around like Mazzone and Duncan do.

Contreras wasn't going to pitch like he has in Chicago in New York. He was just another Jeff Weaver, couldn't handle the pressure. His contract was an albatross and now the Yankees can put that money towards a decent pitcher in the offseason (Pedro perhaps?).
Loaiza will be dealt to Texas by the end of the week. The Rangers have offered some decent prospects (I've heard Sam Narron's and Ramon Nivar's names mentioned) and the Yankees would be stupid to pass up the opportunity to get him out of the Bronx and have something to show for him at the end. If the Yankees lose to Cleveland tonight, George will make some noise. The pitching lately, sans Rivera, has been awful to say the least. At least Brown had a good showing yesterday, 7 innings and only allowing 4 earned runs should be enough to win, especially with the Yankee offense behind you. I don't feel the Yanks are in danger YET. If they keep playing like they have since leaving Seattle, things could get real ugly, real fast. The last thing that needs to happen right now is letting Boston feel they can get back in it.

Oh, I am not saying the Yankees were dumb for dumping Contreras. I agree he was slowly wilting under the pressure in NY and the fact that the BoSox absolutely own the guy did nothing to help the situation. I just don't know why they thought Loaiza was going to be a better solution.
