The AL East will have 2 representatives in the playoffs, and both could make it to the Series, although I still think the Angels have the edge (K'Rod at the end of the game).
The AL Central will offer up cannon fodder for the AL East's champion and the Angels have the West wrapped up. Its time to make sure all of their bench players get time on the field to see which of them is going to be on the playoff roster and to get their pitching set for the playoff run.

I may be done with Major league baseball...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/batting?team=pit

After looking, again, at my hometown's team this may be the last straw.

From the Matt Morris deal... which I still can't figure out, to Jason Bay, and Xavier Nady... To classics such as Pat Meares and Derrick Bell.. I don't think I can watch any more.

Someone please stop me...

Don't give up on baseball. The Pirates have some talent in their minor leagues that should be ready to produce at the major league level very soon. We Twins' fans had similar sentiments during the 90's and things have turned around a bit for us.

I still think the Phillies will be the NL East representative in the playoffs, with the Cubs and Brewers getting in from the Central and Arizona from the West. I cannot see anyone in the NL competing with the Angels for the WS title, however.

Definitely agree on the lack of competition with the Angels. The Phillies got off to a good start, then got wrecked in interleague play by the Angels. They still fared well against the Cubs, and the Cubs also have a poor interleague record, I think. I still think that the Mets and Phillies both get in. Right now those are the best two teams in the NL while the Cubs and Brewers are both stumbling a bit. The 4 game series between the Brewers/Phils this weekend will decide that, though.

I'll be interested to see if Ayala craps the bed now that he knows that Wagner will not be back and he is the guy for the rest of the season. The Mets do have a soft schedule with their next 12 being against either Washington or Atlanta. The only significant team they face the rest of the way is the Cubs. They have a reasonable shot at getting in I just don't like their postseason chances with Ayala as the closer.

He did have a strong season at Durham this year. Somewhat surprising they called him up given the Bulls are in the midst of making a run at the International League's Governor's Cup.

Well as it turns out "he was late arriving" tonight. So the MIGHTY BAT of Ben Zobrist will take over for him.

Good thing Johnson did indeed arrive at the ballpark at some point.

My thoughts...

Tampa Bay doesn't deserve a team like the Rays. The Rays are a wonderful team, stuck with the worst fans in baseball...

No offesne Mush, you seem like a good fan, but that city is pathetic. You may have the best team in baseball and their attendence is lower than the Reds...

That's what happens when you build a stadium in the middle of a retirement community.

Build a 50,000+ seat stadium in Tampa next to Raymond James Stadium and attendance issues go away.
