Brewers finally get the bats out and beat Cardinals 9-8 in 12. So far, Milwaukee is 5-1 in extra innings, and 3-1 when Gagne blows a save. As of yesterday, the Brewers were 14th in the NL in team batting avg, but #1 in avg w/RISP. Finally, some clutch hitters in Milwaukee!

Gabe Gross scores the winning run, then heads to Tampa in a trade. He's had a hot bat all year, just been hitting into some bad luck, until this week. He really sparked the Brewers today, going 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 walks, and also stole a base to set up Gabe Kapler's game winning hit. Enjoy him in TB, Mush.

Abreau With a big grandslam that broke the game open. It was nice to see Joba back as well.

Edinson Volquez... No publicity from the national media...

Well, after 4 starts Mr. Volquez is 3-0 with a 1.21 ERA. He has 23 Ks in 22.1 IP. He has not given up more than 1 run in any of his four starts and opponents are hitting under .200 against him...

What would ESPN be saying if he played for the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Mets or Cubs?

-----------

Wayen Krivsky has been fired:

Krivsky Fired

Three highly placed Reds sources have confirmed that the club has fired GM Wayne Krivsky. Walt Jocketty, current special assistant to owner Bob Castellini and former GM for the St. Louis Cardinals, will be announced as Krivsky's replacement at a news conference later today.

Fresh, I suspect a lot of that is due to the fact that last night was the first time Volquez this season that Volquez got out of the sixth inning. I noticed that you neglected to mention that he has walked 13 batters as well. Unless he gets the walks under control that is going to come back and bite him in the butt. I can only assume the reason he is averaging less than 6 innings a start is because his pitch count gets inflated from walking guys. He probably would be getting hyped if he were going out and throwing 6+ innings every night.

3-0 with a 1.21 ERA and more than a K per inning... Not much to complain about. If anything, it is more impressive because he has been able to pitch out of trouble as well.
