Default Best Poker Player

It's been like a year since my last post about actual poker players on TV.

A lot of people knew all the players like a year ago and they probably know them even better now.

So, I was just wondering who your favorite players are and who consider the best.

My two favorites are Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey. I have tried to mold my style of poker into these two player's style.

I love Hellmuth's trash talking and complaining. It is a lot like me.

As for the best poker player right now, I would say Dan Negreanu. He is a warm hearted person and has been very consistant. Howard Lederer is also up there.

My favorit player is Howard Lederer. Even though it has been a while since he's won in the WSOP - I did some quick research and I think his last 1st place finish was 2001 where he won $165,870 in Deuce to Seven (I have no idea what that game is so I don't even know if this counts as a win ) - I still like his play and how, even when his sister beats him in the TOC, he still leaves peacefully (at least that is what I see). And that's what I like about the guy.

Phil Ivey - Wow...He's probably my second favorite poker player for one reason: I love that blank stare he does when he's in a big hand. He doesn't blink, he doesn't talk, he doesn't move. He just sits there and stares like he just died. Priceless. One thing I don't like about him is his aggressive playing style. But if it's winning him money and titles, then I guess it can't be all too bad.

Anyone else think poker topics should be in The Lounge instead of Other Sports?

Probably not.

Phil Helmuth is entertaining. I wish that he could reach the final table of the Main Event sometime again. Watching him on ESPN with Annie Duke was great.

I also like Howard Lederer for his calm play and Daniel Negreanu.

Annie Duke isn't too bad, she got her start in Billings, 2 hours west of here. I'm not a huge fan of Lane Flack and his manner, but he did get his start in my hometown of Miles City, so he gets some points.

Who's the best checkers player in the world right now? It's just as much a sport as poker...

Don't get me wrong, I like and play poker, but it doesn't belong on ESPN. Perhaps ESPN should consider an entertainment channel. They could feature poker along with billiards, the spelling bee, chess and all of the other stupid crap they fill air time with. Put some actual sports on in the newly freed up space.

Phil Helmuth drives me nuts. Gus Hansen is unbeatable at times. I love Dan Negreanu's passion and excitement that he plays with.

Well, Ellis, would you watch checkers on TV? How about Go Fish? If poker was relegated back to the Travel Channel or an ESPN entertainment channel as I noted, I wouldn't give a damn. It's the valuable airtime that poker and Tilt take up that bothers me.

The definition of "sport" is as follows- an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition. Key words their being physical exertion. Puffing on a cigarette or shuffling cards hardly qualifies as "physical exertion".

I don't know if any of you guys know who Marcel Luske is, but he is awesome. He is the player that David Williams said was his mentor during this years world series.

He came in 12th and 10th in the last two WSOP main events. He also has done will in the other events too.

He is one of my favorite players also and I think he is one of the best.

I'd toss in Barry Greenstein and Ted Forrest as part of the elite of the elite.
