Default ESPN Censorship- Mark Madden

Mark Madden was a highly rated ESPN radio host in Pittsburgh and was fired in late May for making these comments about Ted Kennedy

"I am disappointed to see Ted Kennedy get cancer, I was hoping to live long enough to see him get assassinated. I wonder if he will receive a get well card from the Kopechne family?"

After this statement he was removed from the broadcast. He was supposedly waiting to take another job in Pittsburgh but because of his contract with ESPN he may not even be able to.

What do you think?

I personally disagree with any type of censorship, lies lead only to more lies and the blind can't get places on their own, thus making them easier to control.

I want to hear what people think and I will add more later.

I am not sure what his contract with ESPN would have to do with him taking another job if he has been fired from ESPN.

I am not a huge fan of censorship either but dude has to be smarter than that, especially when you are working for a company owned by Disney.

I would hesitate to even call this censorship. An employer certainly has to have some sort of control over their product without it being called censorship. Based on what you said, it doesn't seem like any party outside of the employer came in and told him what to say and it doesn't seem as if they fired him because of a possible penalty for his statement.

They might not have fired him, just took him off the air and keep paying him. That seems to be pretty common in radio.

He deserved to be canned after that moronic comment.

Yea, this isn't about censorship but about taking away the platform for a stupid comment which is their right.

While his disdain for Kennedy may have merit in some people's eyes or the fact that some may feel his comments were 'figurative' in nature, ESPN still doesn't have to allow an employee the soap box to air their views if they find them contrary to theirs.

Censorship or not, Mark Madden has always been an idiot.

Now TobyKnosker, that was one radio host who had it together.
