Default Just 5 months and 11 days to go! (Week 1 schedule)

So I painstakingly put this together using the conference composite schedules on collegefootballnews.com and compiling a big list. I tried to remove all of the duplicates, but if I missed a couple, my apologies.

Here are the games that jump out at me from Week 1:

South Carolina @ Mississippi State

This is the first BCS vs. BCS game of the year as well as the first interconference game in any conference. Well-liked coach that a lot of us want to see succeed vs. a coach with a repuation for childishness that a lot of us want to see taken down a notch or two. Should be interesting.

Nevada at Fresno State

This might be highest-quality game of the Thursday's games. Probably the best two teams in the WAC. Most of us who saw it won't soon forget the USC/Fresno State game last year, but Nevada won the conference.

USC at Arkansas

Game one of the post-Leinart/Bush regime comes in hostile SEC territory against a team looking for payback after being just humiliated by the Trojans a year ago. I expect it to be surprisingly close.

Cal at Tennessee
Just to satisfy Buckeye. Probably a home-and-home.

Notre Dame at Georgia Tech
I'm calling it right now. Tech wins in an "upset."

Marshall at West Virginia
Didn't West Virginia lawmakers get involved in trying to mandate this game, which oughtta be played every year?

Stanford at Oregon
Isn't it odd for the Pac 10 to play a week 1 conference game? This ain't the ACC.

Akron at Penn State
Okay, so only Jay, Alex, Doug and myself will be interested, but that'll be worth a 20-post thread in itself. I call this game the Midwestern Conference Championships (the two teams involved won last year's D1 midwestern-based conferences). Alas, I'm not anticipating a close one.

Florida State at Miami
Hopefully they will give us something better than last year's clunker.

So what are the interesting ones I missed commenting on?

P.S. No, I will not be compiling a list like this for every week...or if I do, week 2 won't come until clear after week 1 has been played. I try to avoid looking at an entire schedule (bits and pieces will be unavoidable) for a week until the previous week has passed, so that there's at least a couple interesting surprises in store for me each week. I LOVE the intriguing possibilities of non-conference games. I'm glad they upped the schedule for 11 to 12. Call me an non-traditionalist.

Thanks for the list! That Akron game in Week 1 should be a nice test for the PSU offense under their new QB. Of course we won't really be able to tell how the Lions are going to do this year until they begin Big Ten play.
