Default NBA D League

Lakers have their own team in the NBDL.

Ironically, it is called the D-Fenders. http://oursportscentral.com/services...es/?id=3352300

Exactly what Kupcake will say during his electroshock therapy in 10 years after he looks back at the Kobe/Shaq split.

Sorry...couldn't resist.

I don't get the rules here. Can you only get guys who are on your squad in the NBDL? That can't be right. I know the Lakers got Tierre Brown a few years back but I think they got him from the Hornets who got Brown from the NBDL. Not sure of the process here. Only a few guys get called up anyway. I recall Mateen Cleaves going to Cleveland out of Huntsville a few years back. Oh well...just mumbling along.

Up until this past season there was no real link between the NBA and NBDL teams. Basically the NBDL players were all free agents to sign with whomever they wanted. Starting with the new CBA the bulk of the players in the NBDL are assigned by NBA teams. Each teams gets players from, I think, three NBA teams. Each NBA team is allowed to assign, I think, up to 3 players to their NBDL team. The rest of the rosters are just filled out with guys who get cut from the summer league teams and training camps.

It works much the same way NFL Europe does with its NFL affiliation.

Thanks doublee. So basically ignore the NBDL unless 6 or 7 guys go down on your roster huh? LOL.

Lakers never ignore the NBDL.

They get their best signings there.

The best free agent Mitch has ever signed was a NBDL point guard.

As for the NBDL, Lakers still only get to store two players in the team. But they get to sign their own personel and such. Say they put Green and Farmar in the NBDL, or any other kid with two years or less, no team can sign those. But teams can sign any of the other guys on the Lakers roster in the NBDL. Sadly enough, the NBDL players the Lakers would add(Pinnock) is better than Sasha and Cook.

Well, it is intended to be a league where teams can get actual game time for their young guys instead of just hiding them on the injured list for the season. Denver actually sent Julius Hodge down so he could get some minutes instead of rotting at the end of the bench all season long. I think they are also toying with the idea of letting kids into the NBDL who don't want to go to college, but don't want to go overseas either.
