Default WVU: Fact or Fiction?

Seriously, I'm not sure. I haven't seen them play. Has anyone?

10-0 heading into conference play. First time they've started a season 10-0 since the famed NBA Logo was a college player there.

Wins have been blowouts, but against bad to piss-poor competition, with exceptions appearing only in the last couple days.

On Wednesday, the Mountaineers held off #22 George Washington. It looked okay, but by only six and at home.

Then, yesterday, they traveled to Raleigh and beat the #15 Wolfpack pretty convincingly.

Of course, they could go oh-for in the conference, but that seems, well... unlikely.

Do I have a contender? Can I happily kiss the football season goodbye knowing that good things are still coming in Morgantown, or would I simply be setting myself up for a fall?

Just as a point of information they beat NC State without Julius Hodge. The Wolfpack is a rather ordinary team without Hodge on the floor so I don't know how much stock I would put into that victory.

Any victory on the road against a ranked team is good for WVU, routinely in the bottom three of the Big East.

The win over GW was VERY nice, in that for a second, GW was the buzz of the college basketball community, having slain Maryland and Michigan State. The Mountaineers shut that crowd up. Haven't seen them play myself, but I think they're for real.

I don't think we can be sure where the Mountaineers stand yet, because we are just beginning to sniff conference play. In a month, we should have a better idea.

However, wins over GW and NC State can be considered as nothing but quality wins come March.

Now one team that looks like they might not be legit is Pitt after losing to Bucknell----at home!!

Certainly we should know if West Virginia is for real or not by time the conference tournament comes around. I haven't seen them yet, but I'll be watching them as much as I can during conference play.

I'm considering tix to catch them up here at BC on Feb 1.

It'll be their last, with BC heading for the comfort of the ACC next season.

Not to rain on your parade, Dave, but Texas A&M is also undefeated right now (11-0). However, unlike the 'Eers, the Aggies biggest win came on Sunday at Penn State, 7-7 and staring another nine win season straight in the eyes.

Good luck to West Virginia the rest of the season. It's always nice to nice to see a traditional "football school" find some success in hoops.

Well, the conference schedule opens tonight against the 'Nova Wildcats.

You think PSU won't get more than 2 conference wins, Alex? I suppose it's possible, but yikes.

NC State had also lost to a team much worse than West Virginia without Julius Hodge, forgot who it was but NC State is seems to be nothing without Hodge. It's just for me to see the West Virginia Mountaineer's as a good BASKETBALL team. But who knows?

It would appear that the answer to my query is:

Fiction

WVU 46
'Nova 84

U-G-L-Y.

Dunno the specifics yet, just the score. Clearly, the 'Eers weren't shooting 50-60% as they had been to this point in the season.

Yuck.

Oh, well. There's always hockey...
um... mebbe not.

Perhaps it's a good time to get really, really serious 'bout my novel writing...

BOOM!

Down goes WVU!

Down goes UCONN!

Down goes PITT!

That didn't take long at all.

This really makes NC State look bad, even with out Julius Hodge. Why was this game on ESPN Classic? I really thought it was a classic game when I saw the scoreboard and the out of place white kid on West Virginia. But it was present time, thats the 1st time I've seen a live game on classic. Do they have some kind of contract?

Fret not Dave, Spring Training is only about five or six weeks away, just be like Puxtawney Phil and go back in your hole for six more weeks and then come back out when Spring Training starts. By the time the Super Bowl is over they will be starting up for Spring Training. Or, you could just jump on the BC bandwagon as they knocked off UConn tonight.

Is Pitt going into the tank or what? Is someone hurt for them? First Bucknell and now G-Town.
