Default Give A Guy A Chance!!

As the season winds down, it becomes apparent that Florida State is the unwitting victim of one of college football's greatest hoaxes. It's been obvious for years that the media can bend the facts to make things appear as something they are not. I am a firm believer that this happened to the recruiters who travelled to watch Catholic High School (Santa Margarita, CA) in 2000.

Chris Rix was recruited as one of the top quarterbacks in the country, and during his first season, it appeared that he may live up to this billing. As time passed, however, it became obvious that he was simply not capable of playing in a big game. At least, he can't play unless he has been ticketed for parking in a handicapped parking space or some other juvenile prank the week before.

Mr Rix, you have been a disappointment to your team, the alumni, and the followers of Florida State football. Your immature approach to your obligations, such as skipping a final exam prior to the 2002 bowls, have cost the program dealy. Perhaps it is time for you to resign from your scholarship, and let Mom and Dad pick up the rest of your college education. Give another player a chance.

Don't bother showing up for the remainder of the games this season, as I am sure you would have no problem making some excuse for being absent. Just stay home, and give the team a chance to make something out of what's left. You have already cost them a chance at a Sugar Bowl appearance. At least give them some hope when the 'Noles travel to the Swamp.

One had to wonder, after tonight's performance v Clemson, if perhaps Rix had made his final start of the season...

Rix is starting this week vs. NC State, so it looks like we have not seen the last of Chris.

Huh... so, Rix survives, but Berlin sits. Oh, well...

FSU v NCSU will be interesting.

A-Mac is gone, so who else does FSU have at QB with experience?

Fabian Walker played in the Sugar Bowl last year for FSU if I spelled his name right, but beyond that, FSU doesn't have any experience at the quarterback position that I can think of.

Joey, you're right on. Walker's started in that one game v Georgia. I want to say that Craphonso Thorpe has HS experience at QB, but I don't believe they've ever asked him to take a sanp at FSU. I could be wrong; could have been PK Sam, or someone else entirely. I could be having flashbacks of Boldin, who in 2001 was actually on the QB depth chart (if my memory hasn't COMPLETELY failed me) before they decided they needed him on the field and moved him to receiver (to his eventual benefit, no less).

Dave, Boldin actually played a few plays at QB vs. Georgia in the Sugar Bowl last year. Boldin came in and ran a few QB draws, and then he threw a crazy bomb to Talman Gardner and it was right on the money and Gardner dropped it. So, I know Boldin had experience at the QB position in High School, so I am thinking that is who your talking about. But all that being said, would Thorpe or PK Sam really be much worse with no experience in comparison to Rix?

I like Chris Rix myself. You many need to blame someone else.

No, Keith. Pretty much all of FSU's troubles the last two years are very much Chris Rix's complete inability to play well in big games. End of story. There is nowhere else to shift the blame.

^Here, here. Anybody who watched the Miami game could see that our defense played well enough to win. But, Rix thought Sean Taylor played at FSU....

I guess we can all be thankful that we have a week off before having to play UF at The Swamp. I can only wonder how long the 'Noles can rely solely on our defense to win games.

Against NC State, the D was obviously wearing thin due to injuries and fatigue. Now we have to put them up against a Florida team that seems to be getting better every week. Add to these problems the fact that WR Craphonso Thorpe, the only guy on the field that seems to be able to make Rix look like he may belong on a football field, is out for the remainder of the year, and I foresee a long Saturday afternoon.

It would be wonderful to see a 10-2 record posted at the end of the regular season, but right now, with Rix in control, I am afraid it is only a figment of my imagination.
