Default Help! Anyone Have DLP HDTV

I am debating between DLP and LCD. I have heard great things about viewing sports and action things on DLP. I only have experience with LCD which is great for HD, but very poor for non-hd channels.

Anyone recently go with a newer DLP 40"+ size. Samsung's look and rate very good for the price. CC is giving a 42" away for $800 in the morning.

Bob, I just bought a 42" samsung dlp hdtv as a matter of fact and I love it. the non hd channels come in just as they would on a regular tv and watching sports in hd is well worth the price. One thing I highly recogmend is buying a hdmi cable if one is not included in you hd cable package( some companies offer it others don't). It cost around $100.00 but the sound and picture quality is very noticable between the coaxel and the hdmi cable.

One more thing there are dlp out there with a contrast rate lower then 10,000 to 1, don't waste your money on these as you will see "trails" following the ball, puck etc..when watching sports.

Actually the one you bought is what I have decided to go with if I am lucky enough to get one of the sale ones at 5am this morning at Circuit city. $799 while they last.

Thanks for the quick response. Wish me luck!

I think some of that may provide on your cable/satellite provider and whether or not those non-hd channels are still being broadcast in analog or if they are digital.

I have a LCD TV and it is the non-digital channels that don't look especially crisp. The non-hd digital channels look fine on a LCD TV.

First, LCDs do NOT look worse for non-HD channels, that is completely false. Basically, if you have the space and means, DLP is still a better buy and better picture. But a lot of people like the sexiness of a flat panel. I am a HUGE Samsung fan, so a 42" Samsung DLP would be an excellent choice. Make sure you get 5.1 surround speakers as that REALLY completes the experience.

Oh, and return those cables if you can. Circuity City, etc. totally rips you off as you can get the same quality cables online for literally a few bucks. $100 for cables makes me want to puke. Check out http://www.monoprice.com for this. I bought two HDMI cables for like $12 and they work great, no loss in quality.

Got any pics? I wanna see!

If you don't have surround sound than getting a HDTV is a waste of money. You need surround sound to fully appreciate the full HD experience there are no two ways about it.

Yeah, I'm not too good with technology Bob. It took me 5 months to learn how to turn my tv on.
